HCA Hub in Hereford, UK by Hewitt Studios LLP

Friday, January 6th, 2012

Article source: Hewitt Studios LLP

Hewitt Studios have just completed the HCA Hub building which forms a new front-end facility for the Hereford College of Arts.  The proposal delivers much-needed cafe, exhibition and admin space in a striking new volume. With a strong sustainability agenda, the structure is formed of glu-laminated and mass-timber and the space is naturally ventilated and day-lit. A reflective pool is used to both animate the space and mediate sunlight.

Faculty of Fine Arts in Brno, Czech Republic by CHYBIK+KRISTOF Associated Architects

Friday, January 6th, 2012

The project is based on the idea of maximal respect to the character of the park’s locality in  the city centre for which it is designed. It is a complex of separate pavilions based on the floor  plan of the existing build-up area of provisional assembled buildings, so-called likusáks. The  concept of the project presupposes an interaction between education, culture and the public.  Its realisation will significantly contribute to revitalise the neglected eastern part of the park  on Kraví hora. The exclusively located area offers only a commercial use of the provisional  built-up area, and even though it is situated in the wider city centre, it has not undergone a  process of revitalisation yet. The joyless nature of the area with decrepit temporary objects  contrasts dramatically with the surrounds of Kraví hora, being architectonically and socially  highly attractive.

Modest houses on small lots comprise the Quillen’s Point neighborhood, adjacent to the Chesapeake Bay in Ocean View, Delaware.  An eclectic mix of houses, gravel roads ending at the bay and wooded lots provide a nostalgic, informal setting for this new house.  The project site is near the end of Burbage Lane, the second lot from the bay with expectations that the adjacent waterfront lot will eventually be developed.

Haines House in Sydney, Australia by Christopher Polly Architect

Conceptual Framework – The proposal provides a model for grafting a singular substantial volume to an existing single storey semi-detached dwelling while capturing a centrally retained bathroom within the new volume, enabling old and new fabric to enmesh a unique spatial sequence along the length of the dwelling counter intuitive to popular planning methods – to improve the physical and visual relationships to the new rear garden, while harnessing improved access to sunlight, natural ventilation and views to borrowed landscapes and sky beyond.

Corporate headquarters of Berlinwasser Holding AG in Germany by LANGHOF®

Thursday, January 5th, 2012

Article source: LANGHOF®

The corporate headquarters of Berlinwasser Holding AG are located in one of the oldest urban quarters of Berlin, the area surrounding the Molkenmarkt plaza. The exceptional building speaks a language all its own, its architecture reflecting the forms prevalent in expressionism and cubism. In addition, images of architecture as found in science fiction and fantasy novels, modern aesthetic principles as established by computer graphics, and the formal language of product design have all contributed to a building that could also be termed an event.

Ibermutuamur Building in Murcia, Spain by DENORTE

Article source: DENORTE

“A building stands in all its complexity of lines on the eye. Sometimes, given its size and proximity of the spectator who contemplates it is impossible to perceive its volume, forcefulness, and therefore perceive it as a symbol. Because we want buildings without coats, without haughtiness emblematic, not exorbitant budgets, buildings that speak of the people who make the company and that they relate well with others that are not part of it. Buildings, quietly, transcend, because charisma in the design found in those forms that survived their function. Hence, beyond the building’s skyline symbol, the building show, free avant-garde building is the building that blends with the company that hosts and the surrounding environment, with the brand it represents. It is the building that never dies, because it becomes an icon of popular ideas …”

“Architecture is petrified music” by Faleiro Gerra Arquitetura office

“Architecture is petrified music”

What would the noted german writer, Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe, author of this famous phrase, say if he saw the architetonic project of this residence prepared by Faleiro Guerra arquitetura? Poem in accurate traits, perhaps.

Rich in details. Sofisticated architecture. Imponent with its geometric shapes and pure cosiness, due to its serene atmosphere. That is the definition for this residency idealized by the Faleiro Guerra Arquitetura office.
