Article source: Studio Alfirevic Residential group ‘Danube River Housing’ is located on the Danube river banks near Belgrade, and its design concept is based on the idea of cluster like structure of rafts – buildings constructed on pontoons. The main goal was to achieve an atmosphere of housing partially hidden in the river underbrush, and also to establish the ambience of the neighborhood – a group of single-family house-rafts.  Image Courtesy © Studio Alfirevic The main access to the units is possible through floating walkways – pontoons, which level varies smoothly with the river. The building consists of two levels: the ground floor and roof terraces. The main floor is designed on the principle of ”open space”. A narrow communication between the two facade membranes continues to the external staircase to the upper level.  Image Courtesy © Studio Alfirevic The facade of the building is two-layered and consists of small diameter green bamboo. The membrane is visually dematerialized, and also serves as security barrier. Roof surfaces are flat, and designed as a passable terraces. Roof-floor coverings are made of wood, which is stable in wet conditions. Both interior and exterior materialization has been simplified to two colors: white – that dominates the interior, and green – which occurs sporadically as vertical lines – cane stalks.
