Bent in Amsterdam, The Netherlands by Studio Chris Kabel

Friday, November 30th, 2012

Article source: Studio Chris Kabel

Façade for a residential building by Abbink X de Haas architects and housing cooperation de Key in the center of Amsterdam. Aluminum sheets are perforated with a pattern that allows the shapes to be bent up or down. When bent up the surface catches the (sun)light and bent down the surface is shaded. In this way intricate graphics can be applied onto the building with punch perforated panels without the use of expensive laser cutting. Bent turns shadow into ink.

Nautilus Studio in Redmond, Washington by Calico Studio

Friday, November 30th, 2012

Article source: Calico Studio

Most artists if pressed could produce their work in a bathroom, adapting to their means. Our client wanted a space that would call her to create, while providing a visual connection to her family that could easily be broken and reestablished. We found inspiration in the spirals of the nautilus, sweeping from the main house the studio is tucked in between existing site constraints.

Under The Roof in Biscay, Spain by Foraster Arquitectos

Friday, November 30th, 2012

Article source: Foraster Arquitectos

The urbanistic legislation in Mungia, a town near Bilbao (Spain), forces the use in new constructions of a gable roof with tile, in order to keep an identifiable architectural style in the area. It is certainly good to seek architectural uniformity –experience has shown that without doing so it can lead to aesthetic crimes. But it does not preclude seeking original solutions to update existing typologies.
