Aalta in Cenon, France By Debarre Duplantiers Associés Architecture & Paysage

Article source: Debarre Duplantiers Associés Architecture & Paysage

What if we stopped zoning? And what if we projected an office building in the middle of a social housing district? The building Aalta in Cenon takes advantage of different economic incentives and of the development of the Bordeaux tramway to densify and create an active interface between Palmer social district and a quiet neighborhood made of small houses.

A.M. Qattan Foundation Bulding in Ramallah, Palestine by Donaire Arquitectos

Tuesday, November 20th, 2012

Article source: Donaire Arquitectos

Coming from abroad, the Quattan Foundation is perceived as a lighthouse bringing enlightenment to the Palestinian people. This role as flagship of Palestinian culture is in need for a recognizable image worthy to represent its social leadership with a physical landmark. We imagine this landmark as a light up the mountain, seen from everywhere and although modern and contemporary in its form, it is built from the Palestinian very earth and stone. The future building will target an international audience with a contemporary language, but what it will deliver is the local vernacular and very particular qualities.

House for Gudrun in Vorarlberg, Austria by Sven Matt

Tuesday, November 20th, 2012

Article source: Sven Matt

Finding peace, freedom and nature. This is what mattered most to Gudrun, and by building her own little house on the countryside she got there one step closer. However, an extremely tight budget remained, focussing on the most necessary in terms of floor space and construction was essential. The result is a “two-room-appartement” made from prefabricated timber elements based on a concrete foundation.

The story behind the ‘ Veilige Veste’

Wish: a new beginning

The ‘Veilige Veste’ is a sanctuary for women fleeing from maltreatment, loverboys, forced prostitution and honor-related violence. In the ‘Veilige Veste’, care organisation Fier Fryslân wants to create a place where these young women can feel safe. As a consequence of all the modern media, these women are often literally hunted. Before, the victims were hidden away anonymously; now they are in a fortress where nobody can enter that does not belong there. A building that says: ‘here we are!”.

Turning SLIT

This single house is on the narrow site. And the site is long from north to south. It seems that it is difficult to take in the light. So we set up the slit window on the top of level in the 2nd floor. And we thougt that it is necessary to connect the rooms spaciously.
The slit turn the corner and extend to lengthwise and crosswise. So the living space and the other rooms are filled with the light from the slit.

The Green Cage by Jonathan Gibb – Architect

Sunday, November 18th, 2012

Article source: Jonathan Gibb – Architect

The design intent was to look at an residential and pottery / art studio insertion to a bare inner city lot, surrounded by a motley crew of existing industrial buildings. The concept evolved into designing an oasis, abundant with nature within such a concrete and brick clad environ for the interface of Architecture to the intimacy of a garden. The concept of the Green Cage is a contained ideal of the greening of one’s own backyard.

No.8 Wire Residence in Otago, New Zealand by Jonathan Gibb – Architect

Sunday, November 18th, 2012

Article source: Jonathan Gibb – Architect

The Concept: No.8 Wire is a paper architecture exploratory analysis of what constitutes the form and idea of a home relative to the landscape of Central Otago NZ. Three types of spatial devices create and inform the architecture, that of solid, transparency and void. The two gabled volumes sit mirrored, off-set and self referential, bared to all, lost within the expanse of the landscape. The aesthetic is a bold foray of form placed in conversant to its surroundings. Its use is a signifier of the NZ concept of resourcefulness and creativity; best described as a kiwi’s ingenuity and adaptability.
