AN URBAN BIOSCAPE

While society is becoming more complex, two social dynamics could have an enormous incidence in the way that public space will perform in the future. People have a growing concern about environmental matters while an increasing access to information in real time ( and to the mobile media technologies that make it possible) are defying the classical conception of public space, redefining our expectations and confronting it to evolving demands for a wide range of new social experiences.

Catalonia’s International Centre For High Performance In Sailing in Barcelona, Spain by Mestura Arquitectes

Friday, October 5th, 2012

Article source: Mestura Arquitectes

The objective of this intervention is to include under the large pergola Photovoltaic in the Forum Park of Barcelona, a program of the International Center for High Performance Sailing.

The uniqueness of the spaces to be treated, starting considerations requires both the environment and the possible actions in outer space, as the configuration of existing architectural elements, which determine many of the decisions of the project. We therefore propose a treatment in the facades that seek not to contrast with the gigantic scale of the element. The south facade is delayed until the first bay of the current structure to avoid contact of the new facilities with existing structural elements, while on the north side openings are covered with a curtain overlapping continuous acts wooden slats as a unitary element and neutral.

Kiss Bridge in Alicante, Spain by Joaquin Alvado Bañon

Friday, October 5th, 2012

Article source: Joaquin Alvado Baño

The project has been thought to establish a relationship between two different parts of the town, divided by a rainwater channel. Each side of the channel causes a different way to cross, a new shape to define a border. The connection is a kiss, a softy touch of structures. The bridge is a new way to understand the city.

The beams have been structurally designed as the Japanese art of paper folding called “origami”. The material we have used is white concrete plate instead of paper. The two geometrically different parts have different structural behavior. The first part has a large cantilever beam 16 m length, while the second has a Y plan geometry comprising the main path itself and a Venetian stairs. The length of the main path of both structures is over 60 m.

Article source: Aetrangere

It is three decades since Indian cities like Bangalore have witnessed an urban transformation. An urgent growth is taking place around the country and the Urban and Rural are transforming dramatically. It is not only the consequence of globalization but also due to the giant economic shifts from the west to the east.

Our proposal seeks to show a unique path to allow a soft transition of values from urban to nature and from modernity to local culture. We seek to install a landmark image which catalyzes the potential of this central site in the emerging Bangalore.

Double Moon Installation in Brooklyn, New York by Holm Architecture Office

Friday, October 5th, 2012

Article source: Holm Architecture Office

When Olafur Eliasson created his sun he proposed a celebration of the day. For this year’s Nuit Blanche / Bring The Night to Light Festival in Brooklyn, New York, we propose a similar celebration, this time of the night.

The Double Moon installation aims to inspire imagination and focus attention on things that, while often taken for granted, define our daily—and nightly—lives.
