27 VPO in Santa Cruz De Tenerife, Spain by Equipo Olivares Architects

Monday, December 17th, 2012

Article source: Equipo Olivares Architects

The presence of greenhouses in the plot inspired textures, lighting and finishes of this group of public housing.

The law, moreover, established the fragmentation of volumes in pieces no larger than 25 meters. We try therefore that the resulting courtyards were arranged staggered, and thus control the drafs from the streets, while reducing the courtyards dimension, offering more diversity of spaces and of more a private character.

Castle Winery in Palencia, Spain by Moral Arquitectura

Article source: Moral Arquitectura

The time is who builds this one
A lost place, a real place.
There is a Way that is always open
It is a family work, a personal option, a life story
This Project belongs to ground
Only the hand transformed the inside of the hill
The ancient gallery was already there. It was always there
This project thinks about how to define a sensations sequence
A mouth that swallows you and takes you to its entrails
The dryness of the place, the crudeness of the stations transform into rugosity. Day by day…
There was no exact plan. It was an intuitive work. It was a hard process. It was an experimental labor.
A heavy, firm, deep… matter that was marked by pressure, by the weather and by the…time

Monument Silent Crowd in West of Ukraine by ZA Architects

Sunday, December 16th, 2012

Article source: ZA Architects

Overall composition is geometric grid imposed in on the plot. In places where it is necessary it generates a pavement of square concrete tiles, throughout which low grass is growing. On places of burial mesh forms a major compositional element – concrete vertical bars with silhouette and proportions look like silent humans crowd. Despite the visual feeling of accessibility it is impossible to walk between bars because  on the external circuit they are placed rather tightly. Other objects – pavilion, memorial plaques etc. are also made in modular grid. It is assumed that other burial places will be designed with same approach, because it is flexible for any kind of relief, locations of the trees, buildings and geometric shapes of the plots. In this particular project Bakhiv plot is designed.

Saturday, December 15th, 2012

Article source: MVRDV

The central building of DNB’s new bank headquarter cluster developed by Oslo S Utvikling (OSU) is completed. The MVRDV designed main building has 17 unique floors and a surface of 36,500m2. The pixelated volume based on small-scale working units adapts to the various influences of the urban context, combining an efficient and flexible internal organisation with a variety of specific communal spaces such as the main entrance lobby, a transparent trading floor, a sheltered public passage, respect for urban view lines and collective terraces overlooking the fjord to the south. The glass and brick exterior expresses both the transparency and stability of DNB as a modern financial institution.

Renovation of the Cultural Center in Westvleteren, Belgium by ROOM & ROOM Architecture and Urbanism

Saturday, December 15th, 2012

Article source: ROOM & ROOM Architecture and Urbanism

The meeting centre offers accommodation to various community activities. The complex of buildings consists of successive constructions, ranging from a 19th century school building and an old town hall to an industrial construction from the 1990s. The dilapidated storage building makes place for enlargement of the meeting hall. That way the back yard  becomes an outdoor space for the party room. The gabled roof is replaced by a single slope roof, making the room and space higher, and bringing a better acoustic sound in the hall. The high windows bring  light and give views on the nearby church. A central entrance in the armpit of the building complex offers the building an address. The entrance hall connects the different functions and spaces. The use of different types of bricks betray the successive renovations in the past. The new added walls in contemporary bricks build in the recent renovation strengthens the patchwork of different bricks.

The clients wanted a new house but not a new neighborhood. On one of their daily walks they found a 40-year-old structure for sale. The house, beyond repair, occupied a promising lot with a southeast exposure to a small lake. This gave the couple the idea to build their “home and vacation home at the same time, they said.
