Vista Del Valle in Sonoma,CA by Sean Bailey

Tuesday, August 7th, 2012

Article source:  Sean Bailey

Vista Del Valle is a 4,400 square feet house in the Sonoma hills that articulates modern forms, site informed design, and soft clean materials. The project is on a steep site with a view out over the valley, with distant views of Mt. Diablo and East Bay. Its multi-axis plan and gently sloped shed roofs create informal active spaces that look modern in form and yet remain soft with light finely-textured stucco and warm clear-grain horizontal cedar siding.

Located near Bromont, Québec (Canada) and surrounded by woods, this house is set in a natural clearing atop a rocky outcrop. The site offers beautiful views of the forest. In winter, when the leaves have fallen, the Appalachian Mountains are visible in the distance. This project, a weekend getaway for a couple living in Montreal, set out to provide a serene, light-filled and timeless space that would be sensitive to its natural setting.

Crusch Alba in Barcelona, Spain by Gus Wüstemann Architects

Tuesday, August 7th, 2012

Article source: Gus Wüstemann Architects

The project is our flat in Barcelona in the Gotico area, in the center of the historic part of Barcelona. A challenge was the very heterogenic floor plan, which was interrupted by various light patios. The other issue is little daylight in the old town of Barcelona, as the sun and the heat were considered rather a burden in the old times.

There is one major façade facing the street Banys Nous, with big windows and balconies.

Renovation & Interior Design of a stylish apartment in Turku, Finland by Maurizio Giovannoni

Tuesday, August 7th, 2012

Article source: Maurizio Giovannoni

The apartment is a little penthouse (about 65 mq.) in Turku, Southern Finland. Before renovation, walls and doors blocked the passage of light, and the most beautiful view of the historical sites of Turku was on the bedroom side. My principal goal in this project was letting the light flow in and creating a relaxing living room where my customer could do his creative work.

Sugar Hill House in Fire Island, New York by David Gauld Architect PLLC

Saturday, August 4th, 2012

Article source: David Gauld Architect PLLC

Perched on a hill at the shore of the Atlantic Ocean, this beach house’s cubic composition is shifted, resulting in spatial variety. Centrally located on the second floor, there is a cantilever that floats above the lap pool. The pool mimics the shape of the house with the cantilever echoed in the pool steps. This creates a relationship between the pool and house as solid and void. The cantilever/steps mark the central axis of the house.
