Floating Bungalow in Topanga by Bestor Architecture

Friday, June 28th, 2013

Article source: Bestor Architecture

This house in Topanga Canyon rests on an incredible site with a view and rolling hills and meadows all around. With the site’s grade change we could separate the guest house and garage building from the main house by simply shifting the footprint downhill a bit, with the house more nestled in the hill. We created a promenade from the garage down a formal staircase and into the main view before taking a right towards the front door entry pavilion.

MULTI-FUNCTIONAL PAVILION IN VILADRAU, Spain by MIRAG

Friday, June 28th, 2013

Article source: MIRAG

The challenge on the enlargement of this therapeutic centre -‘Riera Major’, located in a privileged site in the outskirts of Viladrau, Girona- was, on the one hand, to offer an improved relation between the patient and the surrounding nature through a reinterpretation of traditional constructions of the area. And on the other hand, to study the real needs of the centre in order to offer them a moderate, affordable solution.

Neut House in Suginami, Tokyo by APOLLO Architects & Associates

Thursday, June 27th, 2013

Article source: APOLLO Architects & Associates

The ophthalmologist couple purchased this narrow, but deep, parcel of land in a quiet neighborhood to build a house where they could enjoy their hobby of listening to the music. On the basement level, the courtyard and double-pane glazing provide sound-buffer for this RC-structure studio which is insulated on the exterior. Natural light enters the studio through the courtyard and makes the space exceptionally inhabitable as a basement.
