Plaza de la Hoja – Social Housing in Bogotá D.C., Colombia by Taller 301 + Juan Pablo Ortiz Arquitectos

Wednesday, May 8th, 2013

Article source: Taller 301 + Juan Pablo Ortiz Arquitectos

Bogotá has had a renowned tradition in building high-quality social housing projects. The site, given its privileged location, presented a unique opportunity to once again claim the throne in contemporary social housing developments. Rather than work with a single apartment, we chose to scale up the unit to a group of 16 apartments.

Bologna station in Bologna, Italy by Andrea Maffei Architects

Wednesday, May 8th, 2013

Article source: Andrea Maffei Architects

The conditions of the city all round and the varies infrastructures to be provided has developed the idea of the station as a tentative to string together different urban needs overlapping. The rail line has always divided the city of Bologna in two different parts: on the south the historical centre with monuments and palaces, on the north the industrial districts (so called “Bolognina”) and the Fair designed by Kenzo Tange (1967). The urban layout has followed these differences, regular and rectangular on the north, concentrated and radio centric on the south.

Newark Visitor’s Center in Newark, New Jersey by Baer, Shifman-Nathan Architects

Wednesday, May 8th, 2013

Article source: Baer, Shifman-Nathan Architects

Designing the Newark Visitor’s Center meant bridging between opposing forces. On the one hand, there was a need to address the adjacency to the metropolitan center of NYC and its main transportation Hub – the Penn Station. This perspective implied the creation of a vibrant architectural event, which is capable of containing the centrality of Newark and of the reality of New Jersey as one of the most populated states in the US. On the other hand, there was a strong pull to blend with an image of a Garden State, or at least create a gateway to suburban America, which is perceived as a place of refuge, away from the metropolitan intensity.

The Dean of Students’ Building functions as the academic and social hub of the School of Engineering in Be’er Sheba University. T-Nursery in Dazaifu, Fukuoka, Japan by Uchida Architect Design Office

Wednesday, May 8th, 2013

Article source: Uchida Architect Design Office

One room (9m span) childcare room

The nursery school built in Dazaifu, a city located near Fukuoka city, had to be extended for two classes in order to increase the accommodation of children. Considering the nationwide decline of birthrates, the number of accommodating children may decrease in the near future. I decided to constitute this building as one room space (9m span) which does not have a pillar inside of building, which becomes very useful for conversions to various uses (playroom etc.).
