Dolomitenblick in Sesto, Italy by Plasma studio

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013

Article source: Plasma studio

The building is located on a hillside in the Dolomites, at the end of a residential area.

The volume has been developed mainly from its pragmatic functional request to host 6 independent apartments with one common circulation: through a cut that marks the main access and the division of the units the volume is splitted into 2 halves. Besides its functional meaning this incision becomes the main defining element of the building: from the cut at either side a strip unfolds that forms the balustrade of a generous covered balcony and ends into the surrounding topography. Following the steep natural hillside with each floor the strips and the façade jump back.

Shifting Tapestry in Boston, USA by Ground Inc

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013

Article source: Ground Inc

A project that delights in the textural complexity of simple materials.

This design for the garden of a single family residence responds to the challenges of a small urban site by using the textural and ephemeral qualities of the materials to breathe life into the space. The spatially simple design creates outdoor living spaces with a sense of privacy, while the interplay of the materials – light, foliage, and grain – creates a rich layer of experience that shifts over time.

Spuntino Restaurant in Mexico City, Mexico by R-ZERO Studio

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013

Article source: R-ZERO Studio

Spuntino (snack in Italian) was born in one of the most exclusive living and shopping centers of historical downtown Mexico City, a place to eat and drink quality wine, whose design aim lies in the creation of a contemporary yet pleasant ambience, almost homely, without abusing the over-sophistication that prevails in similar sites nowadays. Still, the starting point was a cold, colorless, not well lit locale, whose excessive height came about an uncomfortable sensation for the guests.

Beauty Center in Rome, Italy by Arch. Angelo Luigi Tartaglia

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013

Article source: Arch. Angelo Luigi Tartaglia

It was the will of the Client to make a beauty center with a strong communicative impact, in which the user could immediately receive a message of efficiency, timeliness and sophistication. The container in which we would have to work is within a historic restricted building. The Superintendence has been an obstacle not easily pass. The volume in question is located on the first floor of an extension built in the early decades of the last century, in a noble palace in Rome.

Vivienda en C/ José Ortega y Gasset in Madrid, Spain by Beriot, Bernardini Arquitectos

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013

Article source: Beriot, Bernardini Arquitectos

The project deals with the renovation of a 200m2 apartment in Madrid. About half of the apartment, corresponding to day-use spaces, conserved the original ceiling moldings and wooden floors. The project proposed to maintain these elements while opening up the plan, originally divided into rooms and corridors, to obtain one large and only living area. This is achieved by cutting the existing walls at a certain height, leaving on the ceiling part of their footprint and the moldings, like vaults or canopies defining specific places inside the greater space; entrance, kitchen and dining area are defined in this way.

Vivienda Unifamiliar in Menorca, Spain by Beriot, Bernardini Arquitectos

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013

Article source: Beriot, Bernardini Arquitectos

The project arises from the consideration of the specific character of holiday life and the Balearic islands’ gentle climate. The house is conceived mainly as a porch crossed by air, light and scenery. The ample program is organized in local-stone volumes which configure, in the spaces between them, the north-side patio and, under the first floor, the main living space. Three powerful concrete porches perpendicular to the stone volumes frame the sea in the horizon, set the northern limit of the patio, and define the relationship between the later and the main living space.
