WSDG Acoustic Expertise Aids Comprehensive Restoration Effort
SOLOTHURN, SWITZERLAND: Begun in 1762, and completed in 1773, the St. Ursen Cathedral has long-served as the focal point for both worship and tourism in Switzerland’s most significant baroque town. In early January 2011, a mentally disturbed person set a fire which wreaked massive damage throughout the Cathedral’s 2000 + sq. ft. congregation hall. When the smoke cleared, the entire white/gray lime rock interior, which had shone like marble for centuries, was encrusted with a foul grayish residue. The Cathedral was closed to the public and a plan for restoration developed.

This two-storey apartment is located just above a very popular Asian restaurant in the heart of Plateau Mont-Royal in Montreal. The client’s desire was to create a small town house with two bedrooms, an open plan living space, a mezzanine level for relaxation and a terrace. To achieve this, an additional floor was required to respond to the small family’s growing needs.

Weeksville Heritage Center is a unique urban design project in which a modern architectural syntax of simple forms, strip windows, and glass passageways is impacted by repeated African riffs. The riffs are variations that provide a visual counterpoint. The riffs are embedded in construction, in structural elements, such as the joints in paving and stone, in the choice of colors and materials, and in the details like the fence posts and the frit in the sunshading glass. The modern syntax and African riffs, although independent from each other, harmonize when experienced as an entirety.

As part of a Design, Build & Maintain team, diederendirrix architects made the winning design for the redevelopment of the Krimpen aan den IJssel City Hall in the Netherlands.
In just 3 months’ time, the team – consisting of diederendirrix architects, Martens Aannemingsbedrijf, Imtech and Buro Lubbers – made a design for the building and its surroundings which fulfils the city’s wishes perfectly and meets their high sustainability requirements.
Located in a suburb of Daejeon, Korea, the campus is comprised of buildings scattered throughout a lush setting of tree groves and fields. Selected from an open design competition, the scheme places the new 26,000sm building on the northern edge of a green lawn running parallel with the East Gate axis. The design brings together the fields of Computer Science and Electronic and Electrical Engineers. Rectangular boxes are stacked nine stories high and arranged around a central core of large multi-level, indoor and outdoor social spaces that enhance cross-discipline communication between both students and professors.

Site Description: The site is a trapezoidal-shaped parcel of land just outside the center of campus at northern edge of the campus adjacent to the east-gate entrance. The site was an open field sloping from west to east and surrounded primarily by a road on one side and woods on the other.

The building will consist of five levels ( basement for parking and facilities , ground, first and second floor for administrative activities , a technical plant facilities ) .
This Basic Project and Execution in full mission program responds to the needs established by the Building Society and limitations covers all requirements set out in the specific Ordinance ” Tertiary Activities ” Partial Plan Sector XII ” Quitapesares derived Ordinance 7- AT ‘s current General Plan.
This classic example of the machine aesthetic houses the US administrative headquarters for the HerkulesGroup, a world leader in the manufacture of roll machining equipment.
The building is situated in the north of Austria, in the middle of an isolated narrow valley. The Shape of the ground plan is influenced by the regional building regulations and the existing slope. Moreover the design follows natural limitation given by the adjacent river.
The Triehouse is the culmination of almost a decade of research and development in the realm of creative, ultra-affordable ecological housing. In 2004 Adia introduced the “$1,000 Transportable Bedroom” (JKP sleeper), and five years later gained international recognition for its “$12,000 Green Dream Home” (MCDhouse). This was followed in 2010 by a simplified, internationally transportable version of the MCDhouse (adiaHouse, $40,000).
