The Place

This was our first project in Costa Esmeralda, a real estate development neighbor to Pinamar started in 2004. As a recent batching, at the moment there are very few constructions and the place is known for having different types of landscapes, with vegetation varying from pine forests, with similar characteristics to the forest of Mar Azul, to areas where that vegetation is scarce.

Galaxy Soho in Beijing, China by Zaha Hadid

Article source: Zaha Hadid

The Galaxy SOHO project in central Beijing for SOHO China is a 330 000m2 office, retail and entertainment complex that will become an integral part of the living city, inspired by the grand scale of Beijing. Its architecture is a composition of four continuous, flowing volumes that are set apart, fused or linked by stretched bridges. These volumes adapt to each other in all directions, generating a panoramic architecture without corners or abrupt transitions that break the fluidity of its formal composition.

Huisjeshuis in Breda, Netherlands by studio NL-D

Huisjeshuis as new type catalogue housing

The huisjeshuis is a single family house developed as an alternative for the rather boring and limited but relatively cheap catalogue housing. It exists out of a collection of standard shelters with an insulated hall system as a basis. The chosen hall system works in a very advantageous way if you compare the price per cubic metres to those of a standard house.

Casa BB in Mar Azul, Argentina by BAK Architectos

Article source: BAK Architectos

The place

The ground of 20m x 30m located in the forest of Mar Azul has the particularity of a very important unevenness respect of the two streets it faces. While this complicates the resolution of access to the site provides the advantage that, if the house is located high, it is very little exposed to the gaze from the street, and also from the inside you can get views of the landscape above the neighboring buildings. This difference in level is more or less smooth to the back of the lot, but it is very sharp towards the opposite front and in this area the forest is also thinned.

Glass Is Tomorrow in Paris, France by Pro Materia

Thursday, January 17th, 2013

Article source: Pro Materia

GLASS IS TOMORROW is a European project, which aims at establishing a more fluid exchange of knowledge and competencies between glass and design professionals in the north, south, east and west of Europe. Supported by the ‘Culture’ (2007-2013) program of the European Union, GLASS IS TOMORROW promotes a high level of craft and design in contemporary glass. The project was launched on June 1st 2011, and three workshops were organized, in Nuutajärvi (FI), Nový Bor (CZ), Meisenthal (FR), during which glassblowers and designers teamed up to produce glass pieces. Glass aesthetics and techniques were explored by the tandems in order to  develop new typologies of everyday objects. The project opened up new potentialities and generated dialogue about the conception, production and distribution of glass pieces by experimenting around three themes: Stackability, Silver Glass and Out of the Mould. The prototypes created during the workshops as well as the GLASS IS TOMORROW project are now presented to the public through a touring exhibition and publication, featuring pictures and videos signed by James Bort and photography by Anne Croquet and Guy Rebmeister.

Vadeggio-Cassarate Gallery in Lugano, Switzerland by Cino Zucchi Architetti

Tunnels are “wounds” inflicted on geology to facilitate human movements. Their history is ancient, glorious and gory, but today techniques have been refined to the point of making the excavation similar to endoscopic surgery.
