Jun Sakaguchi designed this weekend house in a beautiful setting of leafy resort area. The original idea was to hang the internal space with a structural timber frame like a hammock. The Curving House in Gyeonggi-do, Korea by JOHO Architecture

There is no home for parking

I remember that it was a winter day after snowing when I first visited the site. It was a rare residential lot with an open view to the south at the dead end of a small path beneath Mt. Gwanggyo. What was unique about this lot was that it was very hard to turn the car to come out of the path after more than 2 cars parked, because it was a small path only 4 m in width.  Ironically, the fundamental challenge was not only solving the parking problem but also creating a space for both parking and gardening to coexist.

The tower and exhibition hall is a proposal for Hong Kong’s Kai Tak development, an airport landing strip that will be reclaimed into the city as a new cultural, business, and residential district. The tower is an expressionof fluid movement that manifests into a series of folds, creases, and a bifurcation of massing creating a dual tower.

LED 847 in Shanghai, China by Benjamin Loiseau Architecture

Article source: Benjamin Loiseau Architecture

This command takes place on the north of the Zhangjiang district in Pudong. It’s along the future trade route site. It includes 36,000 m2 of shops and facilitys. The context here is nonexistent, except for the presence of a river bordering the project, which leads to a “technology park”.
The fluid form of the buildings come from the river and from the futur energy of the site. A long ribbon of LED visually unifies all the programs along the road. This is a screen of 800 m length perfect for reading in the car which provide a technological showcase.

Esmeriz House in Vila Nova, Portugal by Projecto Cosimo

Thursday, February 14th, 2013

Article source: Projecto Cosimo

The concept of a house is usually related to the function of shelter/home but it also includes a socio/cultural exercise of a specific community. This house is definitely that place where we act as urban individuals protected from time. It is a polyvalent space that articulates an administrative area with another one that promotes culture and civilization as if through a path where the main program/scheme is spread (secretary, offices, WC, auditorium), just like a beast with thousand feet snug to the slope.

The Kaohsiung Waterfront is being made accessible to the city and its inhabitants due to the departure of navy and industrial functions. The project proposes a strategy for waterfront redevelopment by integrating the natural beauty of the adjacent forested mountain, a low density residential/leisure oriented program and heavy central business district program in balance.

The design of villa Lóla was an especially enjoyable dialogueprocess between client and architect. Various ideas of materials, concepts and techniques where discussed in the process. Inspirations range from Swiss mountains cabins, a sea ranch in Sonoma County in California, and Japanese solutions in spatial efficiency.  Furthermore, the framing of views was an important topic of discussion. The natural surroundings of the site and the fjord of Eyjarfjördurwere key factors to address.
