Can Font Cultural Center in Barcelona, Spain by Taller 9s Arquitectes

Wednesday, February 13th, 2013

Article source: Taller 9s Arquitectes

Can Font is a “Masia”, an architectural traditional catalan typology that represents the important rural heritage of the village of Les Franqueses, sited near Barcelona. Some years ago it was an isolated building, surrounded by fields of cultures, but nowadays it is placed in the middle of an urbanized area, remaining ‘corseted’ between new buildings. The new planning for the area that abolished the open space existing in front of the main facade, converted the lateral façade facing the new square, without architectonical interest, as main facade.

Article source: Architekt Daniel Fügenschuh ZT GmbH

A work live studio was first set up as an architect’s office for himself in 2005 when Daniel Fügenschuh converted a townhouse from 1914 in Innsbruck. Over the years the office space became too small and he decided to expand his office by placing a new built office in the underground of the townhouses’ garden. After completion the garden was laid on top again.

Article source: In situ studio

Our clients approached us to substantially renovate and make an addition to an existing Deck House north of Chapel Hill. The original house was a 1986 replica of a sixties-era Deck House. When our clients approached us, they had not yet purchased the property. Our first effort was to help them imagine the potential of improving the house. After a successful feasibility study, they purchased the home in December 2010.

The Chasen Residence is in a hip and growing, yet historic, neighborhood several blocks east of downtown Raleigh. Representing a new house type in Raleigh, this house is affordable, small, modern and urban. The efficient plan confines the entries, stairs, hallway, kitchen, and half bath to one side of the house, opening up the rest of the space for living.

Cube House in Chihuahua, Mexico by Arquitectura en Movimiento Workshop

Tuesday, February 12th, 2013

Article source: Arquitectura en Movimiento Workshop

The concept of a courtyard as an element of spatial and emotional transition, is the premise of conceptual design, again taking four natural elements, water, fire, air and land. Architectural compositions start with these open spaces and harmonically merge the volumes of the project, organized, scaled and related to each other, in accordance with the architectural program. The visual connection between the exterior and interior generates a censorial ”ludica” in each space and the visual endings are enveloped in the fusion of games of light and shadow, making the horizontal and vertical circulations turn into an emotional transition in the house.

Residential building Ville Verdi in Vienna, Austria by Albert Wimmer ZT GmbH

Tuesday, February 12th, 2013

Article source: Albert Wimmer ZT GmbH

The ecological housing estate in low-energy construction is located in Vienna’s 11th district in a former industrial zone in close proximity to the revitalized, distinctive Gasometers — the industrial monuments of historic-ism. The town villas seek optimal positions in a dancing manner — with regard to exposure to sunlight and quality of view as well as the creation of tension, appeal and attractive force. The slightly “sloping” position, in which the villas ambivalently float between “seeing and being seen”, corresponds to the stepped house type, enhances the villas’ presence and facilitates the occupants’ identification process.

2+ Weekend House in Trebnje, Slovenia by Arhitektura Jure Kotnik

Saturday, February 9th, 2013

Article source: Arhitektura Jure Kotnik

Sky high prices of real estate in the contemporary world have stimulated the search for and development of alternative housing solutions. One such attempt is the ConHouse system of small-size housing container units, which takes the housing/office ISO container to the next evolutionary level.  As opposed to the other container projects, which mostly feed on the excess of available cargo containers, ConHouse pushes the development of containers manufactured especially for housing and office purposes.
