Article source: CUAC Arquitectura

The difficulty of defining a physical stable environment before the devastating dynamics of the managerial expansion of ARENA MEDIA company led us to turning the architecture into a phenomenon, providing it with the aptitude to appear, to transform and to be eliminated. The Agencia de Medios Arena Media Communications in Madrid decided to carry out the reform of its offices with an objective double: to maximize the space to shelter a major number of employees and to establish a new commercial image towards the clients and mass media.

A 60-year old wish for the community of Arcadia has finally come true with the opening of Arcadia Unified School District’s new $20 million Performing Arts Center. It was the District’s intent to build an auditorium in 1952 when the high school was originally constructed, but there was no funding.  Due to the passage of Bond Measure I in 2006, the District finally had a chance to fulfill this community’s enduring dream.

“We are exceptionally pleased to have realized the dream of providing our students, faculty and community members with a world class performing arts venue that will become a home for the arts in Arcadia,” said AUSD Superintendent Dr. Joel Shawn. “All aspects of the arts are an essential component of a rigorous education for our students and a healthy, vibrant community.”

kister scheithauer gross architects and urban planners (ksg) have completed the community centre and synagogue for the Jewish community of Ulm. In 2009, the Israelite Religious Community in Württemberg (IRGW) decided to build a new synagogue for its orthodox community in Ulm and, together with the city of Ulm, initiated a competition. The city placed the building site in the middle of the Weinhof, just a stone’s throw from the former synagogue, which was destroyed during Kristallnacht.

Library in Singuerlin, Spain by Taller 9s Arquitectes

Article source: Taller 9s Arquitectes

Comprehensive intervention on the top floor of a disused market, to convert it into a new cultural center for the neighbourhood (library, bar and cinema). Transformation of a massive VOLUME, closed and geometrically confused, in an open space, diaphanous and representative. From the obligatory response to site constraints (existing structure, easements for the facilities, low ceiling …) is designed a light building, without closures, without interior walls, simply a part of PUBLIC SPACE conveniently bounded, climatized and equipped.

S11 House in Selangor, Malaysia by ArchiCentre

Wednesday, February 6th, 2013

Article source: ArchiCentre

The S11 house is located in an established older suburb of Petaling Jaya. The existing old house on the site was built in the early 1960’s and had become dilapidated and run-down over the years. A new green tropical house was planned for the site and conceptualized along the lines of a tree. The large tree canopy would cover and shelter the living spaces underneath it. The S11 House was designed to achieve the highest level Platinum rating of Malaysia’s Green Building Index (GBI).
There were five significant existing trees on the site.

Atrium Gerland is located on the south side of Lyon, not far from the Rhone river. The neighborhood is an old industrial site in full change. New office buildings and housing projects are giving a whole new aspect of this part of the city. The land site is located at a crossroad, not far from a subway station and bus stops. The building is entirely occupied by one user : the régional unemployment office (Pole Emploi).

VIA University College in Aarhus, Denmark by Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects

Wednesday, February 6th, 2013

Article source: Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects

The aim of the new campus is to help consolidate the activities at one of Denmark’s largest educational institutions. Covering approximately 27,000 square metres, the complex will bring together the many specialist disciplines under one roof and create links and cohesion across disciplines. The vision is to create a flexible, dynamic, cross-disciplinary study environment where students, lecturers and visitors can meet, knowledge can be shared, and ideas can come into being. A central plaza located in the midst of the four wings of the building will act as a meeting place for approximately 2,000 students who will be spending their days on campus in the future. Above the plaza, the building will open up towards the sky and draw the daylight in, while balconies and terraces will define the atrium beneath the expansive light from above.
