Renovation of Rahova Commodities Exchange in Bucharest, Romania by Re-Act Now Studio

Wednesday, March 20th, 2013

Article source: Re-Act Now Studio

What could we do in the context of revitalizing architecture to keep a more vivid picture of an old building with (even partial) special features? It is a question to which we can respond in two ways. The valuable part – the special one – will be restored and the unworthy one we rebuild, complete, emphasize – in a first variant – absolutely in the same stylistic story as theold valuable one, or we dress it – in a second variant – in a completely new concept in major contrast with the existing situation.

Fair Stand For Armstrong at BAU 2013 in Munich, Germany by Ippolito Fleitz Group

Article source: Ippolito Fleitz Group

Munich’s ‘Bau’ trade fair is one of the world’s leading trade fairs for the construction industry. Its particular focus is on building materials. For the ‘Bau 2013’, Armstrong DLW is highlighting its product palette of linoleum and vinyl flooring. The idea is to pursue the twin goals of presenting its new collections and sensitising a younger and inherently more experimental target group of architects to the appeal of these materials. The stand exhibits both the Linea collection, featuring a wide spectrum of wood grain effects, and the Colorette product line, which is distinguished by strong, rich colours.

Kula Skrivanat in Pag, Croatia by Quixotic Architecture

Wednesday, March 20th, 2013

Article source: Quixotic Architecture

The urban plan of the current city of Pag was developed in Venice by the Croatian architect Juraj Dalmatinac aka Giorgio da Sebenico and it is a correlation between Roman Castrum and Venetian Town Planning principles, organized as an orthogonal grid of streets and squares forming at the centre – Trg Petra Kresimira IV, with the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Duke’s and the Bishop’s Palaces. The construction works lasted between 1443 – 1474 and was also supervised by Juraj Dalmatinac. Kula (Tower) Skrivanat is one of nine original towers of this XV century walled city. It was the most efficient structure to protect north-west end of the town from a hostile environment. Currently Kula Skrivanat is an empty relic of a medieval defense system.
