Green Dot Animo Leadership High School in South Los Angeles by Brooks + Scarpa Architects

Wednesday, March 6th, 2013

Article source: Brooks + Scarpa Architects

This new public school for 500 students is located in a tough South Los Angeles neighborhood almost directly under the flight path into LAX and adjacent to the very busy 105 Century freeway.  The design was influenced by the New Orleans architects Curtis and Davis who designed and built many schools in the early 1950s in Louisiana.  Their designs adapted to the harsh southern climate without using air conditioning, creating sustainable light filled and poetic spaces for kids to learn.

Wednesday, March 6th, 2013

Article source: Topiaris Arquitectura

The garden is located on the southwest coast of Portugal, in Herdade da Comporta, Alentejo, which is an outstanding and diverse landscape mosaic with high ecological and cultural value. It is worth mentioning the dune system with psammophilous pioneer vegetation, as well as maritime and umbrella pine woods. This mosaic is complemented by agricultural areas in the lower alluvial soils with large ranges of rice fields. The plot area is 3000m2, and the morphology of the land is very smooth and low sloped.

Cracked House by Gianluca Milesi Architecture

Wednesday, March 6th, 2013

Article source: Gianluca Milesi Architecture

This is a project for a single house-villa placed in a natural imaginary environment. The aim of the design is to create an intimate space strongly communicating with the external environment at the same time. This communication and particular relationship is established through the creation of cracks in a simple box volume that break the enclosure of the interior space and open, visually and physically to the outside.

Bodypuzzle in Vienna, Austria by heri&salli

Wednesday, March 6th, 2013

Article source: heri&salli

The architect’s office heri&salli from Vienna/Austria designed in an apartment of a private building owner a bathroom where mutually alternating fragmentary mirror surfaces and lighting fixtures form a conglomerate like a jigsaw puzzle of an image and a reflection. Sections of the room are more indicated momentarily than carried through. Man nowadays renews almost at will the outer appearance of his body or in other words of the parts of his body. From a superficial point of view it’s possible to say that a human being consists more of fragments than a grown entity.

Housing in Valdemorillo, Spain by Otto Medem Arquitectura

Wednesday, March 6th, 2013

Article source: Otto Medem Arquitectura

The project is commissioned by a couple of journalists who seek peace on the outskirts of the city. The house is broken into 3 volumes to suit the rugged topography of the land. The pieces are positioned to find the best views of the mountains and take in the serenity. Solar positioning was also considered with the placement of each room, depending on its designated use. The union of these 3 parts is established through the connection of their facades, with bands that cross and give expression to the project.

CASA ZR in San Luis Potosi, México by TaAG Arquitectura

Tuesday, March 5th, 2013

Article source: TaAG Arquitectura

The project comes on the first \”closed\” residential subdivision in San Luis Potosi City, with regulations very oppressive and contradictory, where a colonial Mexican style is required (with all complications and possible interpretations of the theme)
The challenge was to get a house with a ‘contemporary’ language despite the regulation that was designed to build houses with the classical typologies of the eighties.

Garden Design for New Build Contemporary Home in Bristol, UK by Oasys Property Solutions

Tuesday, March 5th, 2013

Article source: Oasys Property Solutions

The developer of this new build contemporary property approached OPS to create designs for the rear garden and a dedicated hot tub area. The budget was tight at the concluding stage of the build and consequently the client was after maximum impact for minimal expense, or if using developer language ‘bang for buck’.

Black on White in Wenzenbach, Germany by Fabi Architekten BDA

Tuesday, March 5th, 2013

Article source: Fabi Architekten BDA

A house like an archetype. As a prelude to the castle “Schönberg” (12th century) at the Wehrgraben – site of a former guard house. The house consists of two building volumes – one homogeneous, black saddle roof building lying turned and cantilevered on a white flat roof box. A minimal intrusion into the hillside topography. The volumes open up targeted to the natural space, the forest. The buildings to the sorroundings shine quiet and conciseness– unambiguity.
