Villa Overlooking The Sea in Hayama, Japan by Edward Suzuki Associates

Saturday, March 30th, 2013

Article source: Edward Suzuki Associates

This is a vacation home expected to become a permanent house in the future. Located about an hour’s car ride away from downtown Tokyo, it is locatedin the sea resort of Hayama in the Shonan region, adjacent to the more well known, old city of Kamakura.Sited overlooking the sea on the south, the design intent was to capture as much of the scenic panorama and to bring it into the house. Behind the house on the north is a hill clad with wild bamboos. Sandwiched in between the richness of the sea and that of the hill, the design was to open the house as much as was possible to the natural outdoors and to become a part of it.

Embassy of Islamic Republic of Iran in London by Daneshgar Architects

Friday, March 29th, 2013

Article source: Daneshgar Architects

The design for the Iran Embassy, Vienna is another approach of a direct connection between architectural design and virtual game engines, that opened an entirely new initial point for modern Islamic architecture. The aim was to extract the uniqueness of traditional Islamic ornaments into a modern language of 3-dimensional shaping by simultaneously preserving traditional proportion patterns. To meet with this ambitious intention a special software was programmed that resulted into the adventurously new Islamic design. The traditional way of treating natural light meets an entirely new way of involving the direct processing of digital data flow into an architectural design.

House in Sayo, Japan by Fujiwarramuro Architects

Friday, March 29th, 2013

Article source: Fujiwarramuro Architects

A narrow space threads through the center of this house, expanding and shrinking, curving and meandering. This part of the house morphs and transforms to become a space for relaxation, study, reading, or teatime. We built a small room in the middle of this space. As the width of these branches changes, the purpose of this room, along with its relationship with the surrounding space, transforms along with it.

Filmtheater Weltspiegel in Cottbus, Germany by Studio Alexander Fehre

Friday, March 29th, 2013

Article source: Studio Alexander Fehre

With more than 100-year-old history, the movie theater “Weltspiegel Cottbus” is one of the oldest cinema buildings of Germany and has stamped many childhood memories. A local enthusiast asked Studio Alexander Fehre to conceive a new overall concept for the former single-hall cinema and to give it a coherent interior design . Now two additional film halls with 80 places in each and a film bar belong in the annexe to the building. The historical hall with 520 places and a golden ceiling was utilized by a retractable platform also for events. By an exciting and universal interior design with references to the early film history an exciting merging of history and modern age succeeded.

Vent Vert by Edward Suzuki Associates Inc

Thursday, March 28th, 2013

Article source: Edward Suzuki Associates Inc

VENT VERT is Green Wind in French. As the name suggests, the thrust of the design was to add a new spirit of green to not only the new building but also the surrounding commercial environment. The building sits near the end of a busy shopping street called Azabu Juban where green is rather scarce. For this reason, the green façade was employed as an eye-catcher especially in light of the fact that the building stands at the corner of a bend in the street and highly visible from afar on the approach road.
