Competence Centre Glastroesch in Kempten, Germany by becker architekten

Wednesday, April 17th, 2013

Article source: becker architekten

In the midst of a small commercial area on the western borders of the town, the production hall and the office building of the former `schwabenglass` company are situated directly on a heavy traffic street named `Im Allmey`. After a takeover by the Swiss company `glastroesch ag`, the company’s Kempten location was named `interior competence centre` for southern Germany. The subject of the architectural concept was centered around the feasibility of bringing together the newly needed exhibition rooms with the unchanged capacity for required office space.

Kindergarten Lotte in Tartu, Estonia by kavakava Architects

Wednesday, April 17th, 2013

Article source: kavakava Architects

The city of Tartu has the goal of implementing high-quality modern architecture in new public buildings. The new kindergarten, which is located in one of the most dilapidated areas of Tartu (the so-callled Chinatown is a former Soviet military garrison), is a result of this policy. The kindergarten´s layout – a six-cornered, star-shaped floor plan forced into a square – arose from the desire to avoid long corridors and to create an orderly outer perimeter and street space for the building. Building is situated on one edge of the plot and leaves the southern side free as a play area.

Sichang-Road Teahouse in Kunshan, China by Miao Design Studio

Wednesday, April 17th, 2013

Article source: Miao Design Studio

This project tries to address a mega problem at a micro scale — Chinese urban residents‘ increasing isolation from nature. Kunshan is in the Yangtze River delta region, a flat land with lots of rainfall. Towns in the region historically developed a unique landscape of crisscross canals and numerous ponds. Traditional buildings were next to or even cantilevered over the canals.

Karuizawa Museum Coplex in Nagano-ken, Japan by Yasui Hideo Atelier

Article source: Yasui Hideo Atelier

I was requested, after winning through the competition, to design a facility accompanied to the museum of Hiroshi SENJU, a world-famous Japanese painter/artist. Before I started the actual planning, I prioritized building my conceptual work first ( i.e. geometrical shape containing both traditional and modern forms ) in order to make my design coexist on the same site with the museum that had a curved form interpreting Karuizawa ’s nature in a elegant way.

Amsterdam 289 in Condesa, Mexico City by JSª

Wednesday, April 17th, 2013

Article source: JSª

In a privileged location in the Condesa neighborhood, on a rectangular property of 363 m2 (3,907 sq. ft.), ten individual housing units have been designed, in two different typologies but with distinct differences, each with different features and sizes. This creates an interesting variety within the same complex. It has two buildings, five levels each, divided by a central patio, and communicated through bridges around the perimeter that separate the social and the private areas.
