Thursday, April 4th, 2013

Article source: RDH Architects

The Mississauga Library Project is an adaptive re-use strategy for the major renovation and addition to the Lakeview, Port Credit, and Lorne Park branch libraries, all dating from between 1956 and 1967. The three renovations have been structured as one project, a strategy put forth by the client as a means to use public infrastructure stimulus funds in an efficient manner. Each of the three libraries are situated in park settings; Lakeview and Lorne Park are embedded within established 1950’s suburban neighborhoods and Port Credit is situated adjacent to the Credit River along Lakeshore Road, the commercial ‘high’ street of the old town of Port Credit.

Thursday, April 4th, 2013

Article source: Tectoniques Architects

The Champenoux site in the Lorraine region is one of the five sites of the Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique (National Agronomic Research Institute) in France. Located in the immense forest of Amance, it has added a new laboratories and offices building on the existing site. These high-level technical research centres host French and foreign researchers who work together to study the ecology and genomics of forests. Due to its history and its geographical position, the INRA centre in Nancy has always been largely devoted to the study of the forest and its products (of which timber is the most important). Five hundred people study subjects from the genome to the territory, including the functioning of trees and of ecosystems, as well as the forestry economy and the production of biomass.

Apartment Building in Chailly, Switzerland by Personeni Raffaele Schärer Architectes

Thursday, April 4th, 2013

Article source: Personeni Raffaele Schärer Architectes

This building participates to the densification of the northern neighborhoods of Lausanne. Its tectonic derives from the site’s shape and a strict compliance with the building code. It addresses the various conditions around it: the street facing elevation underlines the gentle curve of Temple Avenue while the opposite one follows the waving course of the river Vuachere lined by trees. It is simply organized on three levels. Each apartment has a unique open layout extending out with its own private exterior space (garden, balcony and terrace).

Facing Saint Peter in Rome, Italy by arch. Angelo Luigi Tartaglia

Thursday, April 4th, 2013

Article source: arch. Angelo Luigi Tartaglia

Rome – Beyond the glass is Rome, the songs and postcards. There is the atmosphere and the irresistible charm of the capital, is its urban rhythm and then there are the buildings. The context of the setting of this house is the Umbertine quarter of Prati, near the Vatican. The setting planimetric is stiff, typical of the dwellings in this area: entrance, corridor, culminating at the end of the kitchen and the bedroom. In one of these buildings Colavita family lives, better known, especially in the United States, such as “lords of the oil.” “We are a mature couple” – said with a slight smile the owner – and both me and my husband wanted to end up in a home intimate and reassuring that it was neither too much nor too contemporary classic.

Promenade Residence in Isle of Capri, Australia by BGD Architects

Thursday, April 4th, 2013

Article source: BGD Architects

Situated on an exclusive residential street, the owner purchased this waterfront property with the view to engage an architect to create their dream home. The home was designed for a family of four with the brief to achieve ideal spaces for work, rest and play. The internal planning required a clever balance to achieve a house of private spaces with maximised outlooks to the Surfers Paradise skyline.  Corten steel screens wrap the first floor bedrooms providing a veil for the bedroom spaces facing the river and the road.
