Housing block in Valencia, Spain by García Floquet Arquitectos

Thursday, June 6th, 2013

Article source: García Floquet Arquitectos

The building is located on a corner plot in the periphery of the locality of Turís, in the boundary between the urban areas and agricultural fields. It is one of the first constructions of an extension of the rural center, which should accommodate nine homes, a commercial premise on the ground floor and parking in the basement. A monolithic element is proposed in this colonization of the territory, which defines the corner in a blunt way and is established as the first solid piece of reference for future buildings in a still undefined place.

Soumaya Museum in Mexico City, Mexico by FR-EE – Fernando Romero Enterprise

Wednesday, June 5th, 2013

Article source: FR-EE – Fernando Romero Enterprise

Museum buildings tend to be conceived either for maximum functionality – acting as neutral containers for art – or as iconic structures that represent a city at a particular historic moment. The Museo Soumaya was designed as both: a sculptural building that is unique and contemporary, yet one able to house a collection of international paintings, sculptures, and decorative objects dating from the fourteenth century to the present.
