Article source: Meta- Studio Located in Pudong district, Shanghai, well known as business area, Studio Meta-, Hong Kong based architecture practice, was commissioned to design XJB Lounge which serves as an exclusive VIP member lounge for metal fabrication company. The main purpose behind the design proposal is to use their existing product which is metal.
The design intent is to involve metal but not the one in the good state for sale. In contrary, the beauty lies on the aging metal, rusty metal. The texture of it is created through a reaction between iron and oxygen in the presence of water or air moisture or other acid. Somehow, rust is a result of natural beauty through a chemical reaction. Beside a symbolic material as an essential design key, formality needs to represent uniqueness and strength yet warm to be a VIP lounge. Another warm element is introduced to combine as its structural support and decorative feature through voronoi system, which is timber. Having timber as support of metal, it gives a sense of lightness to metal as an image. Contact Meta- Studio
