White Colony in Sapporo, Japan by Keikichi Yamauchi Architect and Associates

Saturday, July 27th, 2013

Article source: Keikichi Yamauchi Architect and Associates

The site is located in a quiet residential area, which is off a highway along a medium size road. In addition to houses, wooden rented apartments, offices, and shops are mixed in somewhat sparsely among the neighborhood. This building has a rather large volume for a house, and is also larger than the neighboring buildings. Therefore, we intended to fit the building into the surrounding context.

KOOK Restaurant in Rome, Italy by Noses Architects

Saturday, July 27th, 2013

Article source: Noses Architects

The young firm Noses Architects completed their ‘mission architecture’ for the Kook eating house project in Rome: it meant creating a place that enhanced the perception of the senses without going overboard. The designers say: “The project trusted in cold concrete, heated by the warm wood and custom furnishing full of memories and, perhaps, until recently, bearing witness to intimate family scenes. Today’s and yesterday’s threads meet in the architecture and in the cuisine.

The Courtyard House in Singapore by AR43 Architects

Saturday, July 27th, 2013

Article source: AR43 Architects

Though situated within an exclusive Good Class residential area, the land is surrounded by densely built neighbourhood without much exciting views.  The owner, a ‘Hakka’ descendent, envisions to have a large communal home built for his growing family, multiple guests and frequent gathering among the siblings. Inspired by the Courtyard House, a symbolic design feature for the Hakka ethnic similar to the Hakka Walled Village in China, the house is designed to be inward looking for three generations to live under one roof.

Drink Shop Harpf in Bruneck, Italy by monovolume architecture+design

Saturday, July 27th, 2013

Article source: monovolume architecture+design

The goal of the planning was to implement an area as a meeting place of indulgence and culture.
Front and rear of the store are separated by different styles.
This means that the entrance area was transformed into a traditional corner shop where the passion for detail appears; while in the rear area old architectural treasures have been combined with modern ideas, as defined in ’Rough Luxe’.

Article source: Manuel Ruisánchez

The El Rengle compound is part of a wider operation to redefine the waterfront of the city of Mataró, combining housing and business uses. The planning of the city block -in collaboration with the Municipal Services- interprets this hybrid situation alternating different autonomous volumes among which this building of business activities stands out.

This house is part of a family compound, and expresses the owner’s close relationship with her grandfather who has his own house within the compound.

The design reflects the close bond between the grandfather and granddaughter by orientating the main spaces towards his house and gardens. The living spaces on the ground floor open up to the sprawling gardens, while the elevated private rooms of the owner and her children are sheltered by a gentle curved screen. The shared gardens are akin to a forest with the rooms like bird nests perched amongst the trees.

PUBLIC LIBRARY in CEUTA, Spain by Paredes Pedrosa Arquitectos

Saturday, July 27th, 2013

Article source: Paredes Pedrosa Arquitectos

Programme: Public library, exhibition area, press area, children area, teen library, audiovisual area, research labs, manuscripts and archives. An archaeological centre exhibits a Marinid excavation of the XIV century.

The new Library in Ceuta is conditioned by the steep topography of the plot and by the Arab Marinid archaeological excavation of the XIV century that determine all interior spaces of the Library. Also the lack of space and the compactness of Ceuta, an autonomous Spanish city located on the north coast of Africa on the border of the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, condition the proposal.

Farmers Fishers Bakers in Washington, DC by GrizForm Design Architects

Saturday, July 27th, 2013

Article source: GrizForm Design Architects

Farmers Fishers Bakers, a 9,700 square-foot restaurant in Washington, DC, is an original and creative restaurant venue that seamlessly combines form, function, and creativity. The space formerly housed Farmers & Fishers, a restaurant ruined after the Potomac River in Washington, DC flooded the space. The owners called on a local DCbased architecture and interior design firm to re-imagine the restaurant as one with a farm theme full of folklike touches and unusual materials with an emphasis on custom design.
