PAPPAS HEADQUARTERS/ MERCEDES SALZBURG
BRIEF Car dealership with a garage and showroom | ADDED VALUE In order to arrange the spatial program on this limited lot, all the functions are piled on top of one another, linked by navigable ramps and united under one roof. The vertical reorganization of a car dealership typology provides many advantages over conventional horizontally-organized car dealerships: via the ramps, the client can drive directly to either the garage or the salesroom where the cars are presented to the outside without reflective glass.

PALARNIA club&restaurant by WAMHOUSE

Wednesday, July 10th, 2013

Article source: WAMHOUSE

Palarnia” is the seventh and May (2013) design in the collection called “XII”, entirely designed by Karina Wiciak.

Palarnia  (in Polish means “Smoking room” ) is a place decorated primarily by smoke. It adds mystery to the interiors by making them more theatrical. It can also act as an effective screen for people looking for intimacy in the billows of white puff. The smoke can be compared to night clouds cast over the sky, mysterious fog illuminated with the moonlight or can be simply seen as cigarette smoke by those who miss the times when smoking in pubs was not prohibited… Free interpretations abound here and the setting may provide screenplay writers with food for thought.

Alfenz Bridge in Montafon, Austria by Marte Marte Architects

Alfenz Bridge

The entry to the Montafon Valley is a topographical bottleneck. The railway, the federal highway and the new cycling path offer access to the southernmost valley of Vorarlberg, which is surrounded by high Alpine mountain ranges. Running parallel with the valley, the raging Ill River, prone to flooding, crosses the Alfenz River from the east and channels the Alfenz River into its current. A few meters before the confluence, the new concrete bridge structure spans the tributary and grants pedestrians and cyclists safe passage.

Bishops resting pavilion in Veszprém, Hungary by Veszprémi Építész Műhely

Tuesday, July 9th, 2013

Article source: Veszprémi Építész Műhely

The Bishops resting pavilion is situated in the most beautiful area of Veszprém. The neoclassical two-storey pavilion was built by Bishop Joseph Kopácsy in 1820. The new owner would like to operated the building as a cafe. Our task was to renovate and expand the old pavilion, which was in degraded condition. It was important to link the semi-basement and ground floor space.

The Porter School of Environmental Studies in Tel Aviv, Israel by AXELROD GROBMAN ARCHITECTS

Tuesday, July 9th, 2013

Article source:  AXELROD GROBMAN ARCHITECTS

The PSES building was designed as a “green building” with a synergetic perspective integrating the three elements of sustainability – environment, society and economy – into architecture. As an environmental, ecological structure, the building design utilized environmental parameters (such as solar radiation, wind, acoustics and more) in determining the form that the building would take and its position on the site. Unlike the traditional approach that examine the building’s performance “after the fact”, the design method employed in the initial stages of the design used performance simulation results to generate the actual form of the building.

Strickland-Ferris Residence in Raleigh, North Carolina by Frank Harmon Architect PA

Tuesday, July 9th, 2013

Article source: Frank Harmon Architect PA

The house was designed primarily for one person who had three specific requirements: (1) she wanted “something dramatic;” (2) She wanted to feel “as if I’m living in the trees;” and (3) she wanted the house to be utterly devoid of unnecessary ornamentation to the point that she could see the marks of construction, from exposed bolts to the “unfinished” ceiling structure.
