The main objective of the project is to use the concrete structure as a skeleton of a huge continuous space, evoking the strong sensation of bigness, that relates to roman architecture.

The simple cube-shaped exterior volume hides a complex and dynamic space inside. The filter between interior and exterior is made in corten perforated panels that maintain a strong relation with the massive stone of the roman arena next to the project. The central staircase is built in silence and light coming from above.

ARCHITECT’S PRESENTATION:

Alexander Yonchev’s architecture is based on few main principles which are in the center of his concepts. Each project is the expression of a clear opinion on a given situation, location and program. Yonchev believes in the simple architecture, leaving the sculpture to the sculptors. In his opinion the simplest shapes are proven to be the best in terms of adaptation to people and their way of living.

He backs up his opinion with lots of examples from modern to ancient times. In his projects he is looking for the power of Egyptian, Greek and Roman temples which evokes people’s admiration in a way that even the latest contemporary architecture is incapable of. In his works silence and calmness prevail against noise and dynamics. Each construction is a skeleton of a space and offers a unique experience where the human being is the protagonist. The contrast between light and darkness is one of the basic elements used for the creation of new spaces. The flexibility of light, its strength and the various colors are characteristics that Yonchev uses for the creation of space hierarchy.
