Article source: Concrete Architectural Associates

Mazzo, the eighth member of the IQ creative family in Amsterdam, is the Italian sister of Brasserie Witteveen – both in hospitality concept and in the interior there is an obvious connection. As with Witteveen the name and location of Mazzo share a history in the city of Amsterdam. Six years ago Mazzo was a famous and notorious disco in the monumental building on the Rozengracht.

Red Rock HQ in Sydney, Australia by Rolf Ockert Design

Design Statement

In 2011 we were approached by a client we had built a house for to design the new office for his company. In his opinion the house we had designed for him is still “the best house in the world” and he expected nothing less for his new office fit out. Indeed the only design brief other than the number of workstations to be accommodated was that it had to be “funky”.

FAMILY BENCH by Valentin Garal

Tuesday, September 10th, 2013

Article source: Valentin Garal

family bench is a collaboration by the spanish designer Valentin Garal for Le Porc-Shop, a mexican hand-crafted furniture workshop. Family Bench is an object conceived for the “non places” often forgotten and lacking of character. It is made of solid willow wood, with an outstanding crafted work on the cage. Its construction moves to a concept of excellence for the social and sentimental scope. Pedagogical in its design, functions as a bank of family ties. It requires a tender care by all members that surround the Family Bench. With a touch of irony, is a reflective piece destined to become a point of meeting, discussion and preservation of social relations.

Merchant Square footbridge in Grand Union Canal, England by Knight Architects

Sunday, September 8th, 2013

Article source: Knight Architects

Conceived by bridge specialists Knight Architects and structural engineers AKT II following a limited design competition in 2012, the 3m wide cantilevered Merchant Square footbridge spans 20m across the Grand Union Canal and is raised using hydraulic jacks with an action similar to that of a traditional Japanese hand fan. This creates a kinetic sculpture whose silhouette is both legible and extraordinary and which is well suited to the position on Sunset Terrace next to the canal.

Sunday, September 8th, 2013

Article source: Bumper Investments

“PRIVATE HOUSE” is a large family home situated in Beauvallon, in the Gulf of St. Tropez on the French Cote d’Azur. Stylistically the modern concrete, glass and steel construction is the first of its kind in the area, marking a new generation of design in a region rich with tradition. Bumper Investments, the developers, envisioned an aesthetic and sensorial link between the edifice and the surrounding nature and garden. Corresponding to the natural topographical setting, the maximum height of the elevation reaches just above the treetops, impressing on the inhabitant ideals of being at one with the surrounding wildlife.
