Sunnyslope Sustainable Office in Phoenix, Arizona by Marlene Imirzian & Associates Architects

Through simple sustainable design, the Sunnyslope Sustainable Office shows the potential to shift the paradigm of ubiquitous small Phoenix commercial lots from asphalt covered parking to a sustainable, urban place.  Combining repurposed, recycled materials with native desert landscaping the modest 1950s building was renovated for the Architect’s office.  At the entrance a courtyard of translucent panels is a welcoming entry and provides usable outdoor space.

A canopy of Palo Verde trees provides a natural shade cover over the entrance drive.  The new drive and guest parking area is comprised of repurposed concrete from demolished residential driveways which allows rain to percolate to the underlying soil, reducing runoff and allowing much needed ground water regeneration.  Interior spaces incorporate innovative use of recycled content boards in dynamic forms.  The renovations rejuvenate the building and site, improve the surrounding urban fabric, and reduce negative impact on the environment.
