Long Sutton Studio in Hampshire by Cassion Castle Architects and Tom Lloyd

Sunday, June 29th, 2014

Article source: Cassion Castle Architects

Cassion Castle Architects were commissioned to design this multi-purpose structure next to a former farmhouse in Hampshire. The client, product designer Tom Lloyd, wanted a timber building that could fulfill a series of basic functions as a studio, workshop, garage or storeroom. More importantly, he saw an opportunity to combine architecture and timber craftsmanship to create a simple yet beautiful building that would enhance its setting and complement his home. Tom commissioned Cassion Castle Architects in October 2011 and was closely involved in all aspects of the design.

Sunday, June 29th, 2014

Article source: Moon Hoon

It was a unique case; in the construction of a new building next to the client had made many illicit choices, causing the district government to intervene and to suggest a radically altered space. In between the existing building site and the newly built building, I built a structure that could be used as a green house.

The Underground Extension of the Royal Picture Gallery Mauritshuis in Hague, Netherlands by HANS VAN HEESWIJK ARCHITECTS

Sunday, June 29th, 2014

Article source: HANS VAN HEESWIJK ARCHITECTS

THE HAGUE: On June 28th, after a construction period of just two years, the new Royal Picture Gallery Mauritshuis in The Hague opens its doors to the public for the first time. The surface area of the famous Mauritshuis museum has been doubled – although there is hardly any indication of this fact above ground, thanks to a complex and spectacular feat of engineering which was completed on schedule and within budget. The dramatic yet subtle intervention has solved the logistical problems facing the constantly busy, much-visited museum, while also resulting in a bright and welcoming entrance space characterised by an ingenious and striking use of daylight. The renovation of the existing Mauritshuis was also a part of this project.

Stud Horse Mountain in Washington by Balance Associates, Architects

Sunday, June 29th, 2014

Article source: Balance Associates, Architects

This 3,500 square foot home is located at the end of a ridge overlooking the Methow Valley in Northeast Washington State.

The house is arranged around a courtyard to provide a sheltered area from the exposed location on the ridge. It is separated into four parts, each orientated to different views and solar exposure. A large screen porch forms a connection between the living and sleeping wings to provide an insect free outdoor dining and living space. The shed roofs with cathedral ceilings slope with the contours of the hill to reduce the overall scale and impact to the structure as it is viewed from the valley floor below.
