Interior design of Immo Desimpel offices in Merelbeke, Belgium by BURO II & ARCHI+I

Wednesday, October 29th, 2014

Article source: BURO II & ARCHI+I

The interior design started on a floor of the building that was still a shell. Creating one long corridor for circulation made it possible to conceal the shafts, while a stretch ceiling proved the ideal solution for resolving acoustical problems.

Health Centre and Church Square in Heiden, Germany by THESING & THESING

Wednesday, October 29th, 2014

Article source: Thesing & Thesing Architekten BDA

In the centre of the Westphalian town of Heiden, Thesing & Thesing Architekten have paid homage to history in their creation of a new community space adjacent to the town’s historical church square. Bricks were chosen as the exclusive material for the roof and façade of the new health centre and the pavement of the square itself, an expression of the holistic approach employed by the architects. The bricks of the Hagemeisters’s “Heiden” variety, produced especially for the project, vary in colour from a deep reddish-brown to a violet-red with blue anthracite smoke marks and contribute a sense of lasting permanence. Until the 1970s, a neo-gothic church dominated the centre of the community. In the contours of the new medical building, the architects recall the proportions of both the original church’s architecture and that of even older urban structures taken from the town’s original land registers.

Öijared Hotel IN-BETWEEN TREES in Sweden by Kjellgren Kaminsky Architecture

Wednesday, October 29th, 2014

Article source: Kjellgren Kaminsky

The new hotel building – a complement to the acknowledged architect Gert Wingårdhs breakthrough project Öijared Country Club – conveys a sense of countryside where the vivid forest and its genuine materials are present trough wood, stone and dim colors. The project relates respectfully to the existing building, as well as to the surrounding nature and the hotel will quietly blend into the forest. The building materials are chosen with care and the façade strips are taken from the surrounding forest. In the hotel, visitors can experience the silence of the forest and its ability to absorb sound, as well as the enchanting effect of fire.

The Solar Wave Canopies by Michael Jantzen Studio

Wednesday, October 29th, 2014

Article source: Michael Jantzen Studio

The Solar Wave Canopies were designed as large, prefabricated, modular, public art installations that make electricity from the sun, and collect rainwater, for the communities in which they are built. The structures are formed from two different curved steel elements that are prefabricated into modular sections. Each of these sections is clad with flexible photovoltaic sheets that convert sunlight into electricity. This solar electricity is sent into the local power grid. Rainwater can also be funneled off of the surface of the curved elements into storage container for later use by the local community.

The central urban business location is transformed to become an intelligent and functional business park with urban flair. The resident production companies are supplemented with offices, studios and manufacturing plants from the creative industries and are converted into the ambient business park breitensee. The residual voids create a three-dimensional development of alternatively allocated exterior areas, which double up as office terraces and also help boost communication and shape the identity of the business park.

Thoughts on & tradition showroom in Copenhagen, Denmark by NORM . ARCHITECTS

Wednesday, October 29th, 2014

Article source: NORM . ARCHITECTS

The main idea for the & tradition showroom is to create a contemporary small scale version of a monochrome and harmonious village structure inside a big warehouse. The idea is to make the structure balance between a coherent minimalist spatial art installation – drawing on inspiration from works of artists and architects such as Donald Judd, Richard Serra and Peter Eisenman, combined with classic architectural elements from the village –  the main street, the alley, the square, the tower, the city wall, etc., etc.  Each house is this village will be built with a completely matt monochrome exterior – like a architectural model landscape in 1:1 only revealing each house very differentiated interior with each its own function and purpose. One house would be all wood inside resembling a minimalist Japanese pavilion. Another would be all color inside inspired more by Luis Barragan or Carlo Scarpa, creating a completely different universe for displaying the &tradition products. One house could serve as a meeting space, one as a workshop for product development, one as the place where the staff gathers to eat their lunch, etc. etc.  Some of these houses will be creating in collaboration with some of the companies &tradition work with – like Kvadrat and Dinesen, where clients are also able to see and choose materials for the furniture.
