Art-Palace by TOTEMENT | PAPER

Thursday, January 30th, 2014

Article source: TOTEMENT | PAPER

The main task of this project, to our opinion, is creation of a new city contexture resolving a visual conflict between the image of modern European city (with the “Izmailovo” hotel complex constituting a part of it) a new growth (rather interesting to the public and a brand identity of the area) that does not blend in the city situation where original historical and cultural monuments are less sizable and more chamber, rather than the grandiose historical stylization.

HORTON RESIDENCE in Sebastopol, California by Design Blitz

Thursday, January 30th, 2014

Article source: Design Blitz

The Horton Residence started o! as a simple, rectangular 500 sq ft addition to the owner’s existing 600 sq ft home in west Sebastopol, CA. Originally built in 1942 as a summer home for the family, the house now serves as the client’s primary residence. From the outset it was clear that this project had the potential to be something more than a simple addition, and that the whole house could be transformed into something very special. Among redwoods and in a stunning location adjacent to a seasonal creek, the project o!ered the opportunity to celebrate its setting and create a peaceful retreat for the owners.

The Wilhelminaplein in Leeuwarden, also known as het Zaailand, has undergone a radical transformation. The enormous square has been re-duced considerably by the addition of the new Fries Museum on the east side and a street front of housing and shops on the north side. The existing Zaailand shopping centre has been given a facelift. This combination of commercial and cultural functions creates a lively, urban atmosphere.

Cultural Center of EU Space Technologies in Vitanje, Slovenia by dekleva gregoric arhitekti

Thursday, January 30th, 2014

Article source: dekleva gregoric arhitekti

The Cultural Center of European Space Technologies (KSEVT) will substantially supplement and emphasize the local cultural and social activities of the former Community Center in Vitanje, the town in Slovenia that was family home to Herman Potocnik Noordung, the first theoretician of space. The program includes additional cultural (exhibitions, events) and scientific activities (research, conferences) strongly connected to the phenomena of ‘culturalisation of the space’. The building features a series of interlocking rings that lie on top of each other to create a continuous ramped structure.

Indautxu Square in SPAIN by JAAM sociedad de arquitectura

Thursday, January 30th, 2014

Article source: JAAM sociedad de arquitectura

Before this project the Indautxu Square was a deprived space that the residents avoided, split by a vehicular road. It was necessary to replace vehicles with pedestrians as the centre of the proposal, so two of the three roads that crossed the square were removed, leaving the other only for public transport.
