This small building is the show area of Vanke during the World Horticultural Exposition 2014 in Tsingdao. It will be used as a cafeteria serving the game area beside it. The café adopts a semi-open form as a respondence to the outdoor game area that makes it more accessible as well as creating an internal café space. Besides normal tables and seats, the café provides informal seats facing the game area that allow people to enjoy a coffee during game breaks.

House Workshop in Prihueico Lake, Chile by Schmidt Architects Associates

Friday, January 17th, 2014

Article source: Schmidt Architects Associates

The brief from this young couple was to design both living accommodation and studio space for sculpture & painting. Located in a millenary old forest of towering trees, on the shores of Lake Pirihueico in the south of Chile.

The proposal was to make a brightly lit and welcoming refuge, which inhabits the rough nature of its environment, enjoying this from within a core which maintains its distance, but at the same time both integrates with and emphasizes its surroundings. Formally it assimilates the vernacular architecture of the south, with large (overhanging??) roofs and simple rounded geometric volumes roughened?? through the ageing of the timber. The building form is not willful given the wet summers and extremely snow filled winters experienced by this remote lake set amongst the foothills of the Andes, but at the same time it contributes to the fantastic existing nature of the place.

Seaside House in Baltic Sea Coast, Poland by Ultra Architects

Friday, January 17th, 2014

Article source: Ultra Architects

The very first task was to choose a structural material which would work in heavy natural conditions on a plot where the building had to stand. For the sake of instability of the ground and high level of ground water, the shell of a building must be heavy and waterproof. It also must be firm and solid since we designed large windows to open the interior for a beautiful view of a seaside landscape.

Article source: UNIA ARQUITECTOS

In order to resolve the implantation of the building on the site, we started setting the sports track with the right orientation. The track is placed on the level + 41,90 m, optimizing the topography modification works. The north side of the lot is located on the level + 41,50 m, where we find the entrance to the administration, the nursery and primary areas. Thus, we try to not create large differencesfrom one level to the next, thinking in the shortage of the users.

Residence 1414 Renovation in Austin, Texas by Miró Rivera Architects

Thursday, January 16th, 2014

Article source: Miró Rivera Architects

This project consisted of a complete renovation of a house located in a historic neighborhood. The original 1940’s house suffered an unfortunate addition in the 1980’s. The main goals of the project were to restore the house of the 40’s vocabulary on the exterior while transforming the interiors to bring more light and provide a better connection with a fantastic backyard. A simple material palette was used to maintain a balance between the traditional aspects of the original house and the modern updates.
