Casa Flotanta in Puntarenas, Costa Rica by Benjamin Garcia Saxe Architecture

Thursday, February 20th, 2014

Article source: Benjamin Garcia Saxe Architecture

The Gooden-Na home family wanted to create a home on the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica and they found an incredible site overlooking the ocean. The biggest challenge we encountered was that their plot of land was predominantly comprised of a very steep slope, and the view of the ocean could only be seen from the upper-mid portion of the site. We saw this as an opportunity rather than a constraint and immediately considered an architectural response that was appropriate for these conditions.

Özyeğin University Student Residence in Çekmeköy Campus, Turkey by ARK

Thursday, February 20th, 2014

Article source: ARK

To mitigate the high density of accommodations required on the site, the design adopts a strategy of a tri-parte form and discontinuous stepped silhouette.  These formal ideas are complimented by the unique polychrome façade that merges the large building with the surrounding landscape.

Residential building in Barcelona, Spain by MATEO ARQUITECTURA

Thursday, February 20th, 2014

The neighbours protected themselves from the exterior with thick walls and balconies. We have to work with lightweight elements, so we designed the façade as a succession of layers: one interior, of glass and stainless steel, and another exterior, close to it, of wood that opens and closes at will. It protects us from noise and inquisitive eyes, acts as a filter between inside and outside, and gives the building an urban image.

To accommodate domestic life in the dense central city, architecture has to veil and control pure transparency.

Symbol of rebirth of a neighbourhood, the Arboretum project is a continuation of the development along Hoover Boulevard and the very metropolitan Euralille 2, articulating of the future Porte de Valenciennes neighbourhood. This strategic position induces a sense of transition from the economic heart Euralille to the mixed-use neighbourhoods of housing, commercial, and amenity programs, in which the quality of life takes precedent over monumentality.
