The adaptive reuse of Henry Hobson Richardson’s 1875 Hayden Building was two-fold: convert a dilapidated commercial building into housing for a not-for-profit developer and preserve the ideas and storied past that shaped this National Landmark building.

Wrapped in rubber by Wout wessemius

Saturday, March 15th, 2014

Article source: Wout wessemius

Rubber is one of my favourite materials. Initially I used rubber to create interior objects. I was curious about what you could do with used rubber inner tubes from the possibilities of this specific material. So, for example, I stretched a rubber inner tube around a part of an object, while another part of the tube almost careless folded. The mirror, for example, shows this way of using. This allows the forms to come into existence almost by itself. This gives the objects often an organic and natural look.

Renovating a former school as community centre in Woesten, Belgium by atelier tom vanhee

Saturday, March 15th, 2014

The building is accessible by a central binding public domain, the playground of the former school (built in the 19th century). By opening some windows further down we reinforce the relationship between interior spaces and this square. By doing the same at the other site of the building, the back area is activated as a green semi-public space linked with the meeting hall. The closed functions, the storeroom, the technical areas and the sanitary facilities are grouped in a partially extended volume. It is a rejuvenation of the building, where the recent sanitair extension gave rise to.

The Monique-Corriveau Library, housed in the Saint-Denys-du-Plateau church, is an exception, and in a rather unusual way. It is a tribute to the career—exceptional for her time—of the Quebec writer whose name it honours. This mother of 10 children, to each of whom she dedicated a book, was the author of numerous children’s books and winner of several literary awards.

Forum Horsens Stadium in Denmark by 3XN

Saturday, March 15th, 2014

Article source: 3XN

The Danish town of Horsens brands itself on cultural events with a national as well as international appeal, not least when it comes to football and music. Home ground for AC Horsens, the local football team, and venue for megaconcerts with artists like Madonna and Rolling Stones, the Horsens Stadium required an architectural solution in which the stadium will become a brand itself. It is created to make the players and the crowd feels the intensity of the arena and the excitement of the game.
