Article source:  MVRDV

Collection Building is an art depot open to the public. A public route zigzags through the building, from the lobby on the ground floor where a café can be found up to an exhibition space, sculpture garden and restaurant on the roof. On the way up the route passes along and through art depots and restoration workshops. In depots visible from the route, the exhibition can be changed on a daily basis by simply moving storage racks so each visit to the building can offer a unique experience. On three floors the route passes through exhibition spaces which will be programmed by Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen.

A key project in the heart of the Belgian city of Roeselare is the renewal of the inner-city nucleus formed by Noordstraat, Ooststraat and Henri Horriestraat. The city centre will be structurally strengthened by enlarging a modern centre of knowledge and learning, developing additional commercial premises and building new homes. The renewal project is situated right in the centre of the city. It is an integral part of the main shopping precinct that stretches between the Saint Michael Church and the Grote Markt (market square) on the one hand and the railway station on the other.

ILUSTRARTE 14, Biennial International Exhibition of Children’s Books Illustration in Lisbon, Portugal by Pedro Cabrito + Isabel Diniz architects

PLAYGROUND

For this Ilustrarte 14, we have crossed illustration for children with the playful and creative dimension of the act of playing, in a solution that explores the formal features of the famous colorful toy blocks, timeless in its simplicity and potential for discovery.
It is noteworthy that the first concept model has been literally assembled using a set of blocks bought at a toy store.

These objects remain recognizable and communicative, extracted from the everyday iconography, transforming banal into an exercise that brings us closer to the creative process of illustrating.

Air Force Villages by Perkins Eastman

Wednesday, March 12th, 2014

Article source: Perkins Eastman

A home to call one’s own – a private bedroom and bath, ample shared living space, and a front door where family and friends can be greeted. These are the principles that guided Air Force Villages in the search for their model of culture change and initiated a repositioning of its two self-contained campuses—one campus offering a more urban lifestyle and the other a more rural one. Their vision called for a strong physical connection between each home that would allow for efficient staff and service delivery as well as building a stronger sense of community.

11 DWELLINGS in Sainte-Eulalie, France by La Nouvelle Agence

Wednesday, March 12th, 2014

Article source: La Nouvelle Agence

The village of Sainte-Eulalie sits about twenty kilometers from Bordeaux (France). The site is at the edge of the rural town’s center. On the site, the corner building is rehabilitated, and ten new apartments are created on the remainder of the plot. Taken together, the individual dwellings define a housing block, larger than the original mansion, which frames a communal courtyard in the center. The proposal is careful to offer the best exposure for each building, and the highest quality of space for each apartment, as well as the collective spaces between dwellings.

Tuesday, March 11th, 2014

Article source: Arhitektura d.o.o.

The owner is a successful Slovenian businessman who spends some of his spare time in the countryside. The property is situated on the edge of a small village on top of a hill, and consists of farm land, forest, residential building, barn house, apiary and wooden pavilion used as a tool shack. The client decided to replace the broken-down barn house with a new, multi-functional building, a sort of “modern Slovenian hayrack”. The building is intended for dispensing honey, sorting, handling and drying fruit, storage of crops and tools, while the spacious ground floor is intended as a meeting place to host partners from abroad and celebrate family events.
