Contemporary Japanese Garden in London, U.K by MyLandscapes LTD

Wednesday, April 9th, 2014

Article source: MyLandscapes LTD

The 250sqm site runs east to west and is surrounded by two buildings, a perimeter wall and open on the western side. Initially the ground was pretty level and laid to paving blocks, allowing access to the buildings but serving not much purpose and fairly static. The project took 3 months to build during the wettest winter in the British Isles at a cost of £140,000.

Article source: DAAD Architecten

DAAD Architecten has designed a new sheepfold, with a pitched barn and wool studio, in Balloo in Drenthe. The site, which was ruined through a fire, on the edge of the Balloo es [heightened plots of farmland, specific to Drenthe], has been developed into a public, central green, with spaces for education, information and art.

The proposed office building on Plot 10 in Cologne’s historic Rheinauhafen harbour district occupies a prime waterfront position, situated between two fifteen-storey ‘crane house’ office towers. The building’s distinctive stepped elevation is designed to create a strongly sculptural presence while responding to the views across the harbour.

VERTICAL PATIO HOUSE in Barcelona, Spain by ESTUDI NAO SCP

Wednesday, April 9th, 2014

Article source: ESTUDI NAO SCP

Usually in Catalonia, the plots in the old villages for detached housing are approximately 5 meters wide, adapted to the typical structural system: two parallel load-bearing walls that support regular beams to build a slab.  Sometimes, as it happens in our case, the resultant plot is really outstretched making really difficult the access of light and ventilation in all the rooms of the house.

Residence the Grands Jardins in Petite-Rivière-St-François, Canada by Bourgeois / Lechasseur architectes

Wednesday, April 9th, 2014

Article source: Bourgeois / Lechasseur architectes

The Grands-Jardins home is located in the Charlevoix region, specifically in Petite-Rivière-St- François, close to the Massif ski station. It sits on the mountainside on a rocky wooded site overlooking the St. Lawrence River. One of the major challenges of the project was to position the house so as to optimize the privacy and the views offered by the site. The home is built parallel to the street and at a slight angle so as to look out over the south and the river. From the inside, you feel you are in a ship’s cabin. As the house is located on a deep slope, passersby can see the top level from the street, while on the river side, three above-ground levels elegantly rise to reveal a façade interconnected by a play of angles and glass.
