Dwelling Veeckman – Gélis by Egide Meertens Architecten

Tuesday, April 29th, 2014

Article source: Egide Meertens Architecten

Inside the house, the surrounding landscape presents itself as a painting. The integrated covered terrace forms the link between the outside room and the living area. Contrasting sharply with the openness towards the landscape, the house is ‘isolated’ from the street by way of a lockable, pivoting gate.

A mirror is held up to the presbytery-style dwelling. From the entrance part, one has a view on the patio garden, which in turn is linked with the consultation room of Acad’Emo. Cupboards connect different rooms with one another: the cloakroom and the dining room and kitchen cupboards have been designed, in combination with the doors towards the storage room and the garage, as a continuous set of wall units.

A skylight creates an abundance of light in the transparent bathroom. This skylight also generates another light on the detached kitchen unit. The straightforward staircase separates the spare room on the ground floor from the sitting room. The office space on the first floor looks – over the staircase – onto the magnificent landscape. Accents in wood cut across the aimed at black and white contrast.

Restaurant and theater for kids KUKUMUKU in Vilnius, Lithuania by Plazma Architecture Studio

Tuesday, April 29th, 2014

Article source: Plazma Architecture Studio

Kukumuku is a restaurant–theatre designed for families with kids and located in the heart of Vilnius city centre. The idea to open such a niche restaurant came up due to the fact that public places are rarely adapted to accomodate the needs of the youngest members of the families. This is why, during the whole process of designing the Kukumuku restaurant, the main goal was to pay full attention to what is it that the kids want.

The three-section sports hall of BG/BORG Graz Liebenau – called BLUE BOX –should be seen asan additional modulewithin the whole complex of the existing sports and school building, which functions, however, as a free-standing building as a result of the strongidentity-forming effect of itsexternal appearance.

House in Miramar, Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal by e|348 arquitectura

Tuesday, April 29th, 2014

Article source: e|348 arquitectura

It is a building consisting of two distinct adjacent and interrelated volumes, the housing itself – consisting of two storeys plus a penthouse – and a garage.

Although the volume, apparently, is being treated as a solid monolith, it is fully traversed, with vertical and horizontal voids, with the purpose of creating strong visual relations with its contiguous exterior spaces, and allowing the light to enter through the entire house.

La Boutique in New York City by EOA/Elmslie Osler Architect

Tuesday, April 29th, 2014

Article source: EOA/Elmslie Osler Architect

The new offices of the Paris based digital photo retouching studio B’Pong were designed to help launch their presence in New York City. The entry space and central conference area are wrapped in stacked homasote, to create a sense of mass and weight, a counterpoint to the light coming from skylights above. The workspace beyond is accessed through a door in the mass and reveals glowing workstations. These are encased in corrugated resin and perforated metal screen, creating a moiré effect around the desks.
