Casa Xonar in Silves, Algarve, Portugal by Studio ARTE

Thursday, May 1st, 2014

Article source: Studio ARTE

There was a time when Silves was the capital of great Andalusia, conquered by the Moors and ruled  for centuries, traces of Islamic architecture can still be found in the city once named Xelb, Gharb Al-Anadalus.

The name given Casa Xonar has the meaning to rest, sleep and dream, it offers a perfect retreat in the centre of the old city of Silves. With echoes of this past, Xonar reflects its historical surroundings in the sharpest way, from its Islamic exterior of white washed design to its rooftop terraces and  hidden rooms, the concept of private lifestyle runs throughout.

The house of Kubogaoka in Japan by KICHI ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN

Thursday, May 1st, 2014

Article source: KICHI ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN

This residence is a two-storied residence built in wood, located in a residence area about an hour’s drive from Tokyo.

To achieve a clear contrast, white has been added to the basic color of the mortar of the exterior walls.

As for the interior, when you open the front door, you will see an earth-floored room like that of an old Japanese house, extending all the way to the yard beyond and you will see a tatami mat living room running along the earth-floored room (area). By combining tatami and tiles, Japanese style and western style are harmonized.

Scandinavian middle in Tokyo, Japan by Kichi Architectural Design

Thursday, May 1st, 2014

Article source: Kichi Architectural Design

This residence, consisting of a design office and a master bedroom, is the result of renovating a barn which used to store farming equipment, a barn located in the rural area about an hour’s drive from Tokyo. The barn with the height of 4 m. was transformed into a loft which had two levels–the first for the meeting room and the second for the office. The lattice windows welcome the trees of the forest into the building, ushering in tranquility. The old doors of the barn have been given a new life to provide an accent for the space.

The building is located in Vienna’s sensitive and historic city center thus the design required a considerate adaptation to the adjacent historical buildings.

H2Olab in 2140 BORGERHOUT, BELGIUM by BOB361 architecten

Article source: BOB361 architecten

Meeting with a client who asks to design an extention of 100m2 to an existing building of 15000m2 in the form of a bridge, is rather exceptional.

Consequently, we understood the nature of the task to be the creation of a real connection between the two buildings, which implicates much more than the simple creation of a physical connection or the creation of additional square metres. The theme of “connection” will inspire the design in all its aspects. The two most important aspects hereby are the structure and the organization.
