Casa 7A in Villeta, Colombia by Arquitectura en Estudio + Natalia Heredia

Friday, May 23rd, 2014

Article source: Arquitectura en Estudio + Natalia Heredia

The challenge was to design a country house in the surroundings of the town of Villeta (Colombia), 1.5 hours to the west of Bogotá; at 967 meters above sea level, with a predominantly hot and dry weather all year round. The site’s constraints were very clear; a very steep land that starts at the top of a hill going all the way down to the stream “El Cojo”. The brief asked for a built area of 550m2, including 3 rooms, studio, service and social areas, a terrace and a swimming pool, all this under one essential demand: the house must be able to be completely closed whenever it’s not in use.

Article source: Massimo Adario Architetto

The printing company Varigrafica first opened for business in Nepi (Viterbo), in the sixties; the first factory dates back to 1992 and was dedicated to the offset printing for the production of editorial and advertising material.

The expansion of this industrial building, gave rise to the current/present configuration of the complex, an aggregation of volumes of different sizes, each of them corresponding to a functional scope.

Herold – Social Housing100 in Paris, France by Jakob + Macfarlane

Friday, May 23rd, 2014

Article source: Jakob + Macfarlane

In the context of the reconversion of the ancient site of the hospital Hérold, conceived by Philippe Madec in Paris 19th arrondissement, Jakob + MacFarlane establish/design three mineral forms standing free on a kind of slope triangular island planted with some trees. These three forms, grow like roots on portions of the territory that have been freed by the constraints of the site : protected trees, the ancient existing wall of the beltway, the size and prospect, the not buildable surfaces or the difference in height. Their shapes are at the same time the result of these constraints and a matrix structure generated by an irregular grid on the floor.

A cubic body of glass emerging into view on top of the old theatre

Rafael de La-Hoz has designed a multipurpose box on the rooftop of the classical Teatro Góngora in Cordoba; an innovative and unique new space for the city.

The architect, commissioned to completely refurbish the Teatro Góngora, has recovered the old abandoned building –a project of Luis Gutiérrez Soto (1929-1932)-, which was a reference point for architecture in Cordoba in the twentieth century, and added a visionary multipurpose space contrasting with the current classical model, to ensure a greater variety of uses and promote the cultural life of Cordoba in the twenty first century.

Article source: GAD ARCHITECTURE

The refurbishment of the Besiktas Fish Market is not a design and realization process that was prosecuted in an accustomed manner. It is not intended to be carried through to an in-computable state. On the contrary, the aspiration is to initiate a dynamic outset by the gradual functional supplements and substitutions and even with the immediate effects of artistic approaches.

Invisible kitchen in Paris, France by i29 interior architects

Friday, May 23rd, 2014

Article source: i29 interior architects

As living spaces and kitchen islands merge together in most contemporary homes nowadays, i29 designed a kitchen that acts more as a piece of furniture instead of as a kitchen. Our aim was to develop a kitchen system that seems to disappear in space.

The design is reduced to it’s absolute minimum, having a top surface of only a couple of centimeters thickness with all water, cooking and electrical connections included. Large sliding wall panels conceal all kitchen appliances and storage space.

Apartment Refurbishment in Lisbon, Portugal by Henrique Barros-Gomes

Friday, May 23rd, 2014

Article source: Henrique Barros-Gomes

Complete refurbishment of a late 60´s apartment in Lisbon.

Facing 3 streets, the apartment has great sun exposure and nice views to the surrounding areas. However, its original condition showed a very spacious, but also poorly divided and unbalanced interior, with many partitions, resulting in a needlessly intricate and dark plan. Social and private areas arrangement did not make much sense either – It was felt from the first moment that the house would gain if its organization was completely reversed. Nevertheless, it was a solid construction with a generous ceiling height, and great potential for intervention.

Pantheon For An Engineer by Martinez Vidal

A trompe-l’oeil (French for «deceive the eye») is by definition a technique which tries to deceive the eye by means of the architectural surrounding environment, the perspective, the shading, and other optical illusions, creating an “intensified reality” or a “substitution of the reality”.
