New research and development centre for Hankook Tire breaks ground in Korea by Foster + Partners

Wednesday, June 18th, 2014

Article source: Foster + Partners

A ground-breaking ceremony has been held for the Hankook Technodome, a state-of-the-art new research and development facility for one of the world’s leading tyre manufacturers. The new centre is located in Daejeon, at the heart of Asia’s ‘silicon valley’, and will provide an inspirational place to work, with light filled offices, state-of-the-art laboratories and dynamic social spaces to nurture a culture of openness and innovation.

The design of the new centre is rooted in analysis of the organisation. Rather than a conventional arrangement of offices above double-height testing areas, the building is arranged as five fingers, with parallel office and industrial units – this dynamic, integrated arrangement is highly flexible and promotes visual connections and interaction between the offices, laboratories and different divisions. Breaks between each finger draw daylight into the heart of the floor plate.

32 fadura dwellings in Biscay, Spain by Erredeeme

Wednesday, June 18th, 2014

Article source: Erredeeme

The project is a freestanding building, 4 storeys high and 2 basement floors for parking, storage and technical rooms. The compactness and dual orientation of the dwellings are considered critical to the overall configuration, allowing a rhythm of urban scale, which defines the project consistent with the existing profile in the population.

Private house in Villeny (41), France by Nicolas Laisné Associés

Wednesday, June 18th, 2014

Article source: Nicolas Laisné Associés

This house is the product of the renovation of a boating warehouse by a large pond near Orleans.

Facing the forest, wooden blades hide the house from a public footpath. The second facade literally hangs over the water, with each of its rooms opening onto a landscape where high timber trees mix with reflections in the water.

Redaction House in Delafield, Wisconsin by Johnsen Schmaling Architects

Wednesday, June 18th, 2014

Article source: Johnsen Schmaling Architects

A compact home for a fiber artist and her young family, the Redaction House sits on a narrow lot on a small suburban lake, surrounded by prosaic spec homes crowding the shoreline.

The building occupies a suburban infill site widely considered too small and too confined to accommodate a house for a family of five and provide acceptable levels of privacy and views.
