Firestone Pavilion in Longmeadow, Massachusetts by Newick Architects

Wednesday, June 25th, 2014

Article source: Newick Architects

The site for this project is an existing 1960’s modern house with a 1980’s complementary addition. The Pool existed at the outset as well.

We were asked to design a new pool enclosure fence and Car Port that would be more consistent  with the architecture of the house than the English trellis and dovecotes that  existed when we began. All of this pre-dated the current owner.

Private residence in Melissia, Greece by LKMK ARCHITECTS

Wednesday, June 25th, 2014

Article source: LKMK ARCHITECTS

The 200 sq.m. residence is located at Melissia, on a plot of land with a north-south mild slope. It is placed at the highest elevation of the plot, so there can be ample free space for a garden and the view to the majestic scenery can remain unobstructed. The large openings follow the linear volumes and amplify their elegance, starting a balanced dialogue between the architectural design and the scenery, while giving the end-user a feeling of freedom, unifying the interior with the exterior.

Wednesday, June 25th, 2014

Article source: Franz Architekten

The musical society of zwettl was founded in the year 1887. its hitherto existing rehearsal space in the attic storey of the municipal office did neither answer to the musical society’s supra-regional importance, nor to acoustic requirements. transferring the music society frees space in the existing building for the increasing number of administration tasks.

Klein Bottle House in Mornington Peninsula, Australia by McBride Charles Ryan

Wednesday, June 25th, 2014

Article source: McBride Charles Ryan

The Klein bottle is a descriptive model of a surface developed by topological mathematicians. Klein bottle, mobius strips, boy surfaces, unique surfaces that while they may be distorted remain topologically the same. I.e. a donut will remain topologically a donut if you twist and distort it, it will only change topologically if it is cut.

The surfaces that mathematicians have developed hold intrigue for architects as they hold a promise of new spatial relationships and configurations. Technology (CAD) has played an important part in all this, it is now more possible to efficiently describe more complex shapes and spaces and communicate these to the build. Previously the more orthogonal means of communication – plans, sections and elevations naturally encourage buildings which are more easily described in these terms, i.e. boxes.

Divergence House in Bangkok, Thailand by FOUNDRY OF SPACE CO., LTD.

Wednesday, June 25th, 2014

Article source: FOUNDRY OF SPACE CO., LTD.

Situated inside an existing lush garden in the middle of one of Bangkok’s expatriate areas, Divergence House emerges from the intentionof preserving as many existing trees as possible within the site. Therefore the question of this project is not so much about how to design a house being seen explicitly from outside, but rather about how to seamlessly converge the internal spaces with the natural setting in a way that it still captivates a sense of domestic atmosphere.
