Tous Office in Mexico City, Mexico by Grupo Arquitech

Friday, July 4th, 2014

Article source: Grupo Arquitech

Located in the north of Mexico City, these offices were conceptualized as a central glass patio that wraps a command element, created by natural wood brackets that surround the curved glass containing the office public uses. This item works as a focal point, as seen from any point and relates each of the parts of the office.

The lighting becomes an ornamental and dominant element. Merged with wood and glass, reflects a modern elegant and natural environment in all its rooms.

Alexander Residence by EOA/Elmslie Osler Architect

An existing cedar singled ranch house from the sixties, set on a hill overlooking Shinnecock Bay was completely renovated to extend and connect the residence to the site. The exterior has been transformed by sheathing the house in cement board panels and integrating a lap pool into the master plan. The plan, section, elevations and material applications all serve the house’s relationship with its dramatic surroundings.

Feisteinveien in Stavanger, Norway by Rever & Drage Architects

Friday, July 4th, 2014

Article source: Rever & Drage Architects

This extension to a single-family house in Stavanger was made to make room for a growing family in a city which has become increasingly dense over the last decades due to the economic boom related to the area’s oil industry. The building authorities accepted extension beyond original restrictions but wanted a modern expression, and found common ground with the architects in letting the existing building be preserved as a clear and city-typical shape. Stavanger has also recently been host to the Norwegian Wood project, part of Stavanger 2008 – European City of Culture, and there is reason to believe that the municipal authorities in Stavanger has achieved a more clear and mature architectural policy through the specific focus which that project gave.

EPFL Quartier Nord, SwissTech Convention Center in Ecublens, Switzerland by Richter · Dahl Rocha & Associés

On the eastern edge of the site, student housing and commercial and service areas provide a clear border on the public plaza. Extending to the south to include the Metro station, shops and restaurants are sheltered by a covered gallery with the hotel and student lodgings above. The large scale of the building is mediated through a series of articulations and variations in height of the different volumes that make up the complex. Only the central bodies of the building are carried up to level eight at the top. The outer facades clad in serigraphed glass and aluminium louvers maintain a clear dialogue with the convention center, the coloured window jambs anticipate the exuberance of the inner courtyard.
