The Noble Qur’an Oasis Competition in Al-Madinah Al-Munawarah, Saudi Arabia by Ricardo Bofill Taller de Arquitectura

Friday, July 11th, 2014

Article source: Ricardo Bofill Taller de Arquitectura

The project for The Noble Qur’an Oasis – Al-Madinah Al-Munawarah is a sign of excellence representing a cultural and civic Islamic centre for the research, study and transmission of the Nobel Qur’an.

This iconic project represents the Islamic city and its potential future extensions embodied in a series of covered circles, a palm oasis in the forefront, and fruit trees and native plants irrigated by a system of water canals creating a micro-climate. A traditional pattern of courtyards and narrow streets meshed within the structure encloses generously sized inner spaces, which define this center for the research, study and transmission of the Nobel Qur’an, as a unique place strongly related to Al-Madinah Al-Munawarah and its environment.

Friday, July 11th, 2014

Article source: CHARTIER-CORBASSON

To conceive a skyscraper growing vertically is a very pertinent idea, particularly natural and adapted to London. The considerable financial investment required by such a building justifies this approach allowing to modulate its surface according to the interested investors. For this reason amongst others, we have chosen to develop a most realistic possible approach of the project that could be realised under the present advanced technologies.

BUS & TRAIN STATION COMPETITION ENTRY in Belgrade, Serbia by Đorđe Alfirević + Dušan Trifunović & Predrag Marković

Friday, July 11th, 2014

Article source: Đorđe Alfirević + Dušan Trifunović & Predrag Marković

Spatial organization

The mixed-use complex that was the object of the competition was clearly divided on 4 spatial-functional units: A) North (Bus station), B) South (Hotel-Office-Commercial spaces), C) future metro station and D) Railway station. Introversion was the main organizational principle that was used in conceptualization of the complex due to the lack of adequate views and spatial markers towards which the complex could open up to. Proximity of busy transport hubs (Bus station, Railway station and the Inner city ringroad) which go through the location aspire positioning the main content around inner spatial motives (atrium gardens), distant from unsuitable surrounding.

Glen Lake Tower in Michigan by Balance Associates, Architects

Friday, July 11th, 2014

Article source: Balance Associates, Architects

High on a wooded hilltop above a lake in Michigan, the Tower House is the result of an inspiring collaboration between Balance Associates, clients with a passion for architecture as well as their site, and a skilled local contractor.

Directed to create \”a sustainable retreat that reflects the timeless beauty and simple comforts of the area,\” the architects responded by raising the primary living space above the dense surrounding woods in order to gain light, air and views of Glen Lake and Lake Michigan beyond. Two fin-like, metal-clad walls rise from the crown of the hill to support a three-story plywood box suspended a full story above grade.

The Energy Arch – “De Energieboog” in Tienen, Belgium by AST77 architects and engineers b.vba

Friday, July 11th, 2014

Article source: AST77 architects and engineers b.vba

As a spin-off of IMEC, Photovoltech nv. became one of the most important European producer of multicrystal- line silicon solar cells. Photovoltech was founded in 2001 and has three major shareholders namely Total, GDF Suez and IMEC.

After the first years of investments in the solar cells development and an industrial expansion, the company decided in 2007 to install, on their own business estate, the first electrical production photovoltaic unit. The challenge that was given to the design team, was to create a construction for this photovoltaic production unit on the same innovative manner such as Photovoltech does with the production of their own solar cells.
