Citadel of Construction in Perugia, Italy by HOFLAB & HOFPRO

Saturday, August 9th, 2014

Article source: HOFLAB & HOFPRO

The headquarters of the unified building institutions of the province of Perugia (Centro Edile per la Sicurezza e la Formazione and Cassa Edile) acts as a connecting element within its very heterogeneous semi-peripheral urban context, both typologically and figuratively. This is characterized by a combination of the macroscopic scale, represented by warehouses and shopping structures, and the microscopic one, represented by detached dwellings.

Hotel at Siliguri in India by Anagram Architects

Saturday, August 9th, 2014

Article source: Anagram Architects

About: Located on a strictly linear plot, facing the scenic hills of West Bengal, the project was intended as a sustainable development, albeit retaining a sense of modernity in its overall form work.

Evolving from a basic rectangular massing segregated as public, semipublic and private spaces, the East- West orientation helped maximise daylight intake from the North Side, and an overall louvered, bamboo-based skin lends a vernacular feel to the consolidated mass.

Casa P in Forlì, Italy by AUS Pasini Ranieri

Saturday, August 9th, 2014

Article source: AUS Pasini Ranieri

The quiet Matteotti Village, a suburban residential neighborhood of little one-story houses with a small yard and a kitchen-garden, was planned and implemented in the 1930s with the ominous name of Mussolini Village adopting pseudo-rural typologies and using autarchic materials. Few steps away from House D, implemented by Pasini and Ranieri five years before, House P is extended starting from an identical existing building and in accordance with prescriptive ground figures in the planning codes.

Edison Residence in Montreal, Canada by KANVA

Saturday, August 9th, 2014

Article source: KANVA

A small vacant lot located at the epicenter of Montreal student life, just north of the McGill University’s Milton gates, was the basis of the latest design by KANVA. The site endured a fire in the early 20th century, which flattened the existing 19th century historic stone house; this tragedy represents only one of many narrative layers embedded in the land. The historical context of the site became the primary inspiration for the urban renewal project, which lead to the exploration of an innovative concrete fabrication technique; photoengraved concrete panels that enabled the building to tell a story.

HOUSE-K in Tokyo, Japan by K2YT

Saturday, August 9th, 2014

Article source: K2YT

The site is situated amidst the densely packed residential area in Tokyo. Whilst being on a south west corner of the block having frontages to two streets, the elevated railway on the north posed issues of noise and vibration. The corner location offered opportunities for capturing light and air, but the contradiction was that doing so will call for mitigation of noise.
