Dongdaemun Plaza Kiosk in Seoul, South Korea by NL architects

Tuesday, October 28th, 2014

Article source: NL architects

Young Joon Kim (yo2) is the supervisor of public space of Dongdaemun Plaza in Seoul. He has invited 10 offices to create 3 small kiosks each.

The idea is to eventually construct 30 booths that will provide room for different functions; a series of mini buildings for exhibitions, commercial activities, exchange of information, surveillance, interaction. The stalls range in size from 4, 6 to 9 m2. But what is a kiosk?

Until recently the site was occupied by two large stadiums (for baseball and soccer) that almost touched each other; a surprisingly intimate urban gesture.

Pine gallery in Mito-shi, Ibaraki by Taku Sakaushi / O.F.D.A.

Tuesday, October 28th, 2014

Article source:  Taku Sakaushi / O.F.D.A.

This project was launched to inherit the memory of the initial building of Re-Tem Corporation and improve the surrounding environment. The initial office facing towards a planned road must be moved backward. The discussion on the possibility of dragging back the building with the constructor in consideration of the structure concluded that the building would collapse if dragged. The client agreed with our proposal for inheriting the colors and shapes in the memory of his family in an abstract manner without regard to the original building. The office, carving of deity and small shrine as well as the outline of the entrance of his birthplace were to be integrated into the overall plan.

Renovation of Apartments in 1720s House Stockholm’s Old Town, Sweden by Studiomama

Tuesday, October 28th, 2014

Article source: Studiomama

Studiomama have created two stunning loft apartments in Stockholm’s medieval old town Gamla Stan. The 200sqm apartments started as derelict office space on the top floors of a 300 year old building in the heart of the city.  In a minefield of regulations and restrictions they have worked with conservation specialists to craft beautiful modern living spaces that remain sensitive to their ancient surroundings by stripping back to the skeleton of the structure and re making an interior to the exacting standards of a new build.

VILLA BELLEVUE in Washington by Vanessa Pointet

Tuesday, October 28th, 2014

Article source: Vanessa Pointet

Individual villas have played a particular role in the history of domesticity. They are inevitably the set for the rich and dramatic play of family life whether in fiction or reality. In that sense all villas belong to a very same lineage : a stage for the domestic drama: love, passion, adultery, brotherhood ; the ups and down of family and love stories. Regardless of whether the scenario comes with a happy ending or not, similarities appear in all domestic environments.
