Qatar World Cup Memorial by 1week1project

Saturday, December 20th, 2014

Article source: 1week1project

“More than 400 Nepalese migrant workers have died on Qatar’s building sites as the Gulf state prepares to host the World Cup in 2022.

The grim statistic comes from the Pravasi Nepali Co-ordination Committee, a respected human rights organisation which compiles lists of the dead using official sources in Doha. It will pile new pressure on the Qatari authorities – and on football’s world governing body, Fifa – to curb a mounting death toll that some are warning could hit 4,000 by the time the 2022 finals take place.15 February

Stirling House in Sydney, Australia by Mac-Interactive Architects

Thursday, December 18th, 2014

Article source: Mac-Interactive Architects

A new-build house replacing two very narrow 2-storey weather-board cottages on the same lot but in a very derelict stateAfter much discussion with Heritage it was felt that it would not be possible to restore them to anything other than museum status as they could not be brought up to current BCA standards. It was also felt that they were not of that much interest and very little original fabric existed. A fairly unique opportunity presented itself to insert a contemporary building into a heritage conservation area – allowing for a future reading of this particular period of Sydney’s development.

Dressing Room for a Garden with a Pond in Tarragona, Spain by Clara Nubiola

Thursday, December 18th, 2014

Article source: Clara Nubiola

This project started some time ago. Close relatives brought up the idea of constructing a wc/changing room in the garden. A place to change in and out of a bathing suit since the pond is used as a pool, thus avoiding having to go to the house in order to get changed. A place also to wash one’s hands after the “calçotades” that have already been established as a winter tradition. Pen, paper and inspection of the area to decide where would we place it.
