Stack in Slavonice, Czech Republic by e-MRAK – Martin Rajniš

Saturday, January 24th, 2015

Article source: e-MRAK – Martin Rajniš

The client purchased land in a protected nature reserve known as “Czech Canada”: wide meadows and rock outcroppings surrounded with pines. His wish was to build a stack here. What emerged is a house of nine modules of 3.60 m: the two modules at the edges are left open as terraces. The entire northern side is insulated and simultaneously forms, as in Japan, a long cabinet with sliding doors. The southern, eastern and western sides of the house are glazed from inside. The sliding dilation joint allows for fixed swinging frames with double glazing to be fitted even into the structure of the lumber stack, which can change its dimensions with damp or gradual drying of the wood. Experimentation with the hollow lumber stack here reached the level of a fully inhabitable house, where the tectonics of the hollow lumber stack simultaneously serve as a pleasant, firm external shading that prevents the emergence of a greenhouse effect inside.

The Meandering Staircase Pavilion by michael jantzen studio

How can a unique access to a place be used as a way in which to design new and unexpected forms of art and architecture? This is the question I asked myself before I made a new series of functional art structures.

They were all designed in an attempt to offer very unique sculptural places, themed around the idea of an unusual access to an enclosed, or partially enclosed portion of the pavilion.

The granary (8,00m2) existing will be recovered.

The existing buildings are in an advanced state of degradation. The interiors are in ruins. We decided to completely demolish the “core” of both and the roofs, recovering and consolidating part of the outer walls, which will be in memory of what existed. The new housing will be located within these limits, like a loose box, the new volumes are developed and are born from the ruins shaping itself to land following the natural curves of it.

Article source: STUDIO DI ARCHITETTURA DANIELE MENICHINI

The idea of a space and interior volumes’ distribution was created with a simple, concise and effective concept curated by Daniele Meni-chini architect study, based on some suggestions by Elena Tremolada, owner of Elenails center in Piombino (LI). The tones of black, white and silver are contaminated by the inclusion of purple shades as punc-tual or linear element in complements and lightings.
