CHÂTEAU DE RENTILLY-FRAC Ile-de in Bussy Saint Martin, France by Bona-Lemercier

Thursday, January 8th, 2015

Article source: Bona-Lemercier

Rebuilt after the last war in a style reflecting the local Ile de France architecture, though on a much smaller scale than the original, the Château de Rentilly lost its historical value and its significant relationship with its remarkable location. This project has sought to restore both aspects by encasing the building in a second skin of pleated, mirror polished stainless steel which reflects and diffracts the image of the park, acting as a kind of sound box. The interior has been stripped down and simultaneously opened up on both opposite sides, one to the jardin à la française, the other to the english landscape park, emphasising the concept of immersion in the natural world.

PRIMARY SCHOOL FOR SCIENCES AND BIODIVERSITY in Boulogne-Billancourt, France by chartier dalix

Thursday, January 8th, 2015

Article source: chartier dalix

A primary school and gymnasium with their own natural environment.
The project has been designed as part of a particularly innovative programme, environmentally speaking. The concept of the building relies on the development of a primary landscape which would draw its textures and components from the wider landscape in which it is set. In this way it becomes an urban enclave which stands apart: an elevated landscape in which an indigenous environment grows freely, a sort of urban canopy, sheltered, but also protected by people.

Sparrenburg visitor centre in Bielefeld, Germany by Max Dudler

Thursday, January 8th, 2015

Article source: Max Dudler

Architect Max Dudler has designed a new visitor centre for the medieval Sparrenburg fortress in Bielefeld. The new building was opened on 17 September 2014 after a one-year planning and construction period. An info point for the nearby Johannisberg garden and park will follow at the end of the year, also based on plans by Max Dudler who won the 2013 competition for the realisation of both projects. The visitor centre has created a new spatial frame for the historical bailey. The material and expression represent a contemporary update of fortress architecture.

ZOOTOPIA in Givskud, Denmark by BIG

Thursday, January 8th, 2015

Article source: BIG

Architects’ greatest and most important task is to design man-made ecosystems – to ensure that our cities and buildings suit the way we want to live. We must make sure that our cities offer a generous framework for different people – from different backgrounds, economy, gender, culture, education and age – so they can live together in harmony while taking into account individual needs as well as the common good. Nowhere is this challenge more acrimonious than in a zoo. It is our dream – with Givskud – to create the best possible and freest possible environment for the animals’ lives and relationships with each other and visitors.

2014 ISAF Sailing World Championship Facilities in Santander, Spain by AZPML

Wednesday, January 7th, 2015

Article source: AZPML

The project for the storage facilities of the High Performance National Sailing Centre, located in Santander, consists in consolidating the previous obsolete storage buildings for a single container over which we have planned a public rooftop. The project presents the problem of integrating in a limited space two activities that must be physically segregated, – i.e. private of use of the CEAR and public use of the canopy – while simultaneously creating a whole whose parts harmoniously coexist. Our proposal is to extend the public space above ground level, ensuring both storage and public space functions can be combined through an unconventional approach to public space design.

Article source: sa.und.sa architetti + Paolo Mestriner

In the town of Sant’Angelo dei Lombardi, all around the Church of Santa Maria, the time has crystallized impeding the regular process of \”urban healing\”: in November 23rd 1980 the collapse of the structure, which occurred during a celebration, has swept 40 people; since then the area has been gradually reabsorbed by nature… Beyond Ruins is an urban workshop with the aim to explore new prospects for recovery, seeing the temporary like a precious opportunity for a resilient existence and in the landscape care a unique opportunity to rediscover the territorial identity.

A designer, his two sons, and their tireless terrier Winston share a small 1950’s building that stands rather unnoticed among its neighbors in the Mile-Ex district. The robust walls of this former workshop, however, hide a jewel conversion within.
