The Plinth House in Langdons Hill, Australia by Luke Stanley Architects

Wednesday, January 21st, 2015

Article source: Luke Stanley Architects

Sitting neatly against the backdrop of the original house, this simple extension takes advantage of its picturesque location. A series of new timber blades contain a north facing extension, with a feature window that frames a commanding view of the surrounding countryside. A new pergola provides relief from the harsh summer sun and completes the external transformation.

TIWAG POWER STATION CONTROL CENTRE WITH VISITOR CENTRE in Tirol, Austria by Bechter Zaffignani Architekten

Wednesday, January 21st, 2015

Article source: Bechter Zaffignani Architekten

The new building for the power station control centre of Tiroler Wasserkraft AG in Silz is a massive, tower-like, free-standing building. The dominant building on the site was and still remains the old turbine building. Various additions reduced the impact made by this building, with the result that the high-energy processes on the power station site were no longer externally legible. Through the forma idiom it employs the new building attempts to depict these processes.

Passive House Che in SUCEAVA, ROMANIA by Tecto Arhitectura

Wednesday, January 21st, 2015

Article source: Tecto Arhitectura

The challenge was to create a simple, sustainable, two-storey unit that would fit into a special site: a mature forest inside  a northern romanian city. Form and Building orientation are designed in order to maximise the use of natural daylight and south orientation. To achieve this, the chosen specific site for implementing the volume was on the upper part of the property, gently blending on the slope of the terrain, with great views over the entire forest and the horizon landscape.

GUGGENHEIM MUSEUM in Helsinki, Finland by Spark Architects

Wednesday, January 21st, 2015

Article source: Spark Architects

DESIGN STATEMENT:

The design aims to function as a translator between the urban condition, the public, and the museum spaces.

The existing urban edges of the city context define a triangular building mass. Lifting the main exhibition space allows the public and the museum programme to float freely underneath, creating a continuous connection between the urban fabric and water.

MOSF (Museum of science fiction) in Washington D.C by Miguel A. Arias

Tuesday, January 20th, 2015

Article source: Miguel A. Arias

The conception of a museum of science fiction is created by the need to expose the exorbitant knowledge that this discipline has developed throughout history. Supported by actual studies, this science includes theories and structure still unconfirmed, making possible validity and creation, any invention of the uncertain or nonexistent.

Article source: Form4 Architecture

Luminous Moon-Gate was designed in 2013 for the Taichung City Cultural Center International Competition. The design intent behind the proposed project hints at multiple interpretative roles for Taichung: a portal into heightened consciousness, a lantern of knowledge, a catalyst for metropolitan living, a cultural lung for the body of the city, a gate toward a responsible future, a center regenerative of community life, a landmark for orientation.
