The Modernist Cabin by Henrique Barros-Gomes

Saturday, February 7th, 2015

Article source: Henrique Barros-Gomes

The project was designed for an architectural competition, promoted by “Free Green”.

The challenge was to develop a small vacation home for a couple with two grown children, a kind of a modernist retreat. The aim was to build an economic, ecological, modern but without formal excesses house, which would integrate smoothly into the landscape of a forest in a lake front. It should suggest what may be termed \”affordable luxury\”.

The Pedal Powered 360° Observatory by michael jantzen studio

Saturday, February 7th, 2015

Article source: michael jantzen studio

The Pedal Powered 360° Observatory was designed as an interactive public or private functional art installation. The shape of the structure was inspired by the centrifuge machines used for astronaut high-g training. The painted steel structure is forty feet long, nine feet high, and nine feet wide. It consists of a short staircase at one end, a long ramp in the middle, and a chair and bicycle pedal assembly at the other end. This portion of the structure is mounted to a cone shaped center support, which contains a large gear assembly. The gear assembly is attached with a long chain to the bicycle pedal drive located in front of the chair.

Tropism of Wild Flower in Seoul, Korea by Dongjin Kim / L’EAU design Co.,Ltd.

Saturday, February 7th, 2015

Article source: Dongjin Kim / L’EAU design Co.,Ltd.

A City is a community filled with diverse discrete entities and a silhouette appears by the creation of a standardized system for the mutual co-existence of all entities. It is the Architecture which forms their living environment within this unknown disorder among the city’s entities. Architecture is a multi-layered, three dimensional object within the Urban Eco-system. If the architecture is seized by the logic of economy and hardens to a solid object and cannot react flexibly to the variety of changes and the environmental stimulus, the flow of symbiosis forms within the biosphere will inevitably break naturally.

Saturday, February 7th, 2015

Article source: sa.ne studio

This project is consisted of three major volumes. Two of them are forming an “L” shape plan on the ground floor, and the other one sits on top of them at a 30 degrees angle.
The reason for creating such a composition, was to maintain visibility to the most beautiful views the house could have, and at the same provide appropriate orientation for shading for an improved thermal performance.

KANARI ISLAND in Piraeus, Greece by U67 (Fabio Gigone + Angela Gigliotti)

Saturday, February 7th, 2015

Article source: U67 (Fabio Gigone + Angela Gigliotti)

The Piraeus and the city of Athens together form a complex metropolitan area in which the presence of an archipelago of spaces emerges clearly from the dense low-rise fabrics’ layer of the houses. The islands of this archipelago could be considered the eminent mountains, hills, sporadic open spaces, thick industrial buffers and a myriad of gardens. In a way, here the Cyclades are mirrored to form a reverse: where the docking to one of those “islands” often means to get a breath. “Kanari Island” and “Ietionian Gate” are two twin islands placed next to the Piraeus Port, even if not directly connected with the sea and not even to each other, still their opposite topography makes the docking to them two completely different experiences. The relationship between these two islands is the framework in which this proposal has to be collocated. Both for the visitors and for the residents, the “Kanari Island” has a central role due to its position: it is a contemporary urban gate for the city.

AL Flat in Barcelona, Catalunya by Alventosa Morell Arquitectes

Saturday, February 7th, 2015

Article source: Alventosa Morell Arquitectes

The project consists of a total interior rehabilitation of a small flat, built at the beginning of the XX century.

Our challenge in this project was to redesign some spaces to get bigger and comfortable ambients.

It was in very bad conditions and with too many rooms, spaces, in a small net floor area; so the approach to the project has been to intervene as much as possible in its original rooms distribution.
