The Urban Harvest, Shanghai features food grown on site: a minimum miles concept aimed at reducing food miles – in this case zero, other ingredients are sourced locally where possible.
The restaurant doubles as gallery space, flanking walls are clad with beautiful Hangzhou Marble and act as a backdrop to a monthly rotating gallery show curated by 曹启泰 Cao Qitai’s 艺高高 ArtGoGo. The curated work is of contemporary Chinese Artisits’ and provides an opportunity for diners to own limited prints of the featured artists’ work – The opening month features work by 周春芽 Zhou Chunya , famed for his ‘Green Dog’ series.
A retrained palette of simple but beautiful materials make up the remainder of the space, Blackened steel, Black Marble, and a brass streaked terrazzo flooring combine to give an air of industrial sophistication. Black glass and Aged mirror give an illusion of depth to an otherwise small dining space. Bespoke lighting elements and furnishings have been designed by Atelier I-N-D-J and have been proudly made by workshops local to Shanghai.
